Activities at Dudwell St Mary Care Home

Our activity coordinator provides our home with a fun-packed weekly programme to engage all residents. Past activities include bread making, pottery, knitting, and card making. Not only do we run regular exercise programmes for the residents but we also have our regular entertainers come in to entertain our residents and their families. The activity coordinator visits residents on a one-to-one basis, for a chat, manicure and hand massage. The activity co-ordinator said "Residents love the one-to-ones and especially enjoy the manicure and hand massage, as not only is it stimulating but it boosts their confidence and pride in their appearance.''

Linda Lawes

Activities Coordinator

My Name is Linda and I am one of the Activities Co-ordinators at Dudwell St. Mary care home.

I joined Dudwell St Mary in April 2008 as a Housekeeping Assistant and later became the Head of Housekeeping.  In 2018 I then became an activities co-ordinator where I brought lots of new exciting ideas to the role.

I am passionate about my role within the home and aim to bring a smile to all our residents’ faces through different types of activities. My personality is bright and bubbly so aim to share this each day at work.

As I gather the residents likes and dislikes if you would like to come and chat with me about your family member please contact the home to arrange.

Life at Dudwell St Mary Care Home

,

Welcoming back our local high street

Staff took to the local village in Burwash and surrounding areas to welcome back our village shops. They wanted to give something back and let all those that had to close due to the current situation they were thinking about them. The chef made delicious homemade cupcakes that were very well received.

Mary Quant Virtual talk

Staff and residents at Dudwell St Mary were treated to a virtual talk about Mary Quant’s influence on the world of fashion by V&A Dundee curator, Mhairi Maxwell. The talk forms part of a series of six talks and virtual tours that V&A Dundee is hosting for Barchester Healthcare’s care homes and private hospitals across the UK. Everyone said the talk was fascinating and transported them back to the swinging sixties.

St Patrick's Day Celebrations

Celebrations were in full swing as Residents celebrated St Patrick's day in style. They made Shamrock smoothies, followed by a special lunch. Then an afternoon of taking a trip around the emerald isles, learning lots of interesting facts along the way.

Return to school gifts

Staff and residents from Dudwell St Mary welcomed children back to school with a lovely hamper of treats following the long lockdown period.

To celebrate the children’s return to school, staff and residents prepared a big hamper containing lots of fresh fruit, healthy snacks and treats for the children from Burwash Primary who the residents had missed seeing through their usual intergenerational activities. They received a wonderful hand written card in return.

Cheers to Mothers Day

We always love a celebration and Mothers Day is no exception. Residents celebrated with a delivery of fresh flowers. A three course lunch prepared and served by the head chef and then an afternoon of sweet treats, fun and fizz for everyone.

Baking Afternoon

The smell of fresh baked bread and cookies often fills the home. Staff are always finding ways to encourage and promote independence. A baking afternoon always gets to show off skills and a good excuse for afternoon tea for everyone to taste the delights after.
