Activities at Dudwell St Mary Care Home

Our activity coordinator provides our home with a fun-packed weekly programme to engage all residents. Past activities include bread making, pottery, knitting, and card making. Not only do we run regular exercise programmes for the residents but we also have our regular entertainers come in to entertain our residents and their families. The activity coordinator visits residents on a one-to-one basis, for a chat, manicure and hand massage. The activity co-ordinator said "Residents love the one-to-ones and especially enjoy the manicure and hand massage, as not only is it stimulating but it boosts their confidence and pride in their appearance.''

Linda Lawes

Activities Coordinator

My Name is Linda and I am one of the Activities Co-ordinators at Dudwell St. Mary care home.

I joined Dudwell St Mary in April 2008 as a Housekeeping Assistant and later became the Head of Housekeeping.  In 2018 I then became an activities co-ordinator where I brought lots of new exciting ideas to the role.

I am passionate about my role within the home and aim to bring a smile to all our residents’ faces through different types of activities. My personality is bright and bubbly so aim to share this each day at work.

As I gather the residents likes and dislikes if you would like to come and chat with me about your family member please contact the home to arrange.

International Nurses Day

Every day we thank our Nurses for the wonderful work they do for us and how they make Dudwell St Mary brilliant. But on Nurses day, It was all about them. There was a presentation with chocolates and certificates for everyone followed by afternoon tea complete with music and lots of laughter. We even took to the local town with homemade cupcakes to give thanks to all those nurses working in our community that we couldn't be without.

Magic Table come to life

Dudwell St Mary has recently brought a bit of magic to residents by providing a new ‘Magic Table as a way to improve residents’ quality of life. The benefits of the Magic Table has shown to improve mood and behaviours especially across the mid-to-late stages of dementia, greater physical, social and cognitive activity, reduction in withdrawn-like symptoms and positive impacts on relationships with care staff, friends and family. It is a great addition to the home and residents really enjoy it.

Hairdresser returns and works her magic

We understand that feeling pampered is very important to our residents. So now as restrictions ease we welcomed Wendy back into our very own salon in the home. Everyone felt very special.

Keeping families together

Here at Dudwell St Mary we are pleased to be able to offer a variety of types of visits to support safe opportunities for family and friends to be together. A loved one at Dudwell can have dedicated visits in their bedroom, use of our visiting suite as well as spend time in our beautiful gardens with friends and families enjoying high tea or even a glass of fizz!

Celebrating the Queen's 95th Birthday

Dudwell St Mary marked the Queen’s 95th birthday in style by brewing up a storm for National Tea Day and having an afternoon tea party.

Head chef Kristina whipped up a tasty selection of freshly-baked biscuits, pastries and cakes for the occasion, all washed down with a selection of different teas.  Residents took part in a virtual tour of a royal palace, high tea whilst watching old clips of royal tours and occasions, finishing the day with a right royal quiz,
