Activities at Derham House Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Life at Derham House Care Home

Our Staff Make Us Great

At Barchester Healthcare we know that it is the staff that make us great. We are very fortunate to have fantastic staff who truly care about enriching the lives of our residents.   Our Employee of the Month at Derham House is Maria Satnarine. She has been nominated by her team because she is extremely dedicated to her care work, always eager to learn more about our residents by sitting and talking about their lives, and creates a happy environment where ever she goes!

Halloween at Derham House

Halloween at Derham House saw residents and staff doing the traditional activities of carving pumpkins, dressing up and decorating the home. But this year Derham House also wanted to take the opportunity to thank the local community for the support received during this difficult year.

Our General Manager Crina Lee and some of her spooky helpers took delicious homemade cupcakes to some of the businesses who have offered support recently. The cupcakes were gratefully received at the local GP surgeries, solicitor's offices and florists.

Wear It Pink

Residents and staff at Alice Grange have been supporting Breast Cancer Awareness by wearing pink and having their hair dyed and sprayed pink this week!

Even the General Manager got involved and a lot of laughs were had. Some seem to be taken with their new look, whilst others were far less convinced.

Autumn At Derham House

At Derham House we are able to enjoy a variety of outdoor spaces including beautiful courtyards, a tranquil Memory Garden and an extensive lawn that is perfect for enjoying with the grandchildren.

Derham House looks gorgeous decked out in Autumnal colours, tendered with care by our gardening team.

Harvest Festival

With Harvest Festival approaching residents and staff got their creative hats on and decorated the front hallway of Derham House to reflect the season. Whilst Derham House made a great effort in the Barchester Harvest Festival Competition we were just beaten by another home's display.

Next stop will be creating a fantastic and festive Christmas enviroment in a few weeks time.

Memory Garden

Residents and staff have been keen to get involved in creating our new Memory Garden.

This tranquil and reflective space set in a quiet corner of our extensive garden is being created to allow residents to have somewhere to sit, reminisce and think about loved ones who are missed.

The new Memory Garden will feature a small tiled area. Today residents and staff have been decorating the tiles with the names of loved ones and images that evoke their favourite memories. The garden will be built by our hardworking garden and maintenance team and should look lovely once completed.
