Activities at Cumberland Grange Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Gosia Andrews

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Gosia and I am the Activities Co-Ordinator here at Cumberland Grange.

I have been in the care sector since 2008, and I also have a degree in teaching. I am here to arrange and run a varied Life Enrichment Programme which is full of fun activities for our residents to take part in. We do lots of different activities here which change on a regular basis, including weekly trips out in our mini bus, flower arranging, live musical performances, arts and crafts, cheese and wine nights and so much more. We also have groups which happen every week, mostly lead by our residents, including Poetry Club, Gardening Club, Politics and Pastries, Cumberland Grange Choir and Knit and Natter.

We have monthly resident meetings where we discuss life at Cumberland Grange. We talk about the activities that we currently run, including activities that our residents would like us to incorporate into the planner.

Making wishes come true is also something that we love to do. So, if our resident has a wish, together we try our best to make that happen, because life at Cumberland is about having fun and making even more special memories.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

A visit from some beautiful reptiles

Thank you so much to Troy from C&L Aquatics, Reptiles and Pet Centre for bringing in your wonderful chameleon, bearded dragon and snake for our residents to see and enjoy yesterday afternoon.

We all thoroughly enjoyed their company and sweet natures, as well as learning some facts about these magnificent reptiles.

Our fantastic activities team are already looking into which animal visits we can have next.

Cumberland Grange turns 2

Cumberland Grange turns 2

What a truly wonderful evening we all had. So many smiles, lots of laughter and heaps of love which filled the home. There is no better way to celebrate!

Thank you so much to everyone who joined us - families, friends, Age UK Exeter, John Tescos retired Community Champion, our local PCSO’s, Paul and Veronica from Living Memories, The Magic of Graham Prigg who was absolutely AMAZING, Pete the Poet who created beautiful poems with our residents and guests and typed them up on an old fashioned type writer, and of course the incredible and much loved dad and daughter singing duo Steph and Daz for getting us all up dancing and singing along.

The food was delicious and the company was so enjoyed.

Now to start planning our Christmas party!

We love Autumn!

Our 2nd Birthday party preparations are well underway!

Our residents opted for pumpkin carving which had us all laughing until our cheeks hurt.

POLITICS & PASTRIES

Each week we come together to discuss what’s going on in the world. It’s a great chance for our residents to debrief with what they read and see on the TV over a cup of tea and a pastry or two!

Great Talent Uncovered

Pete the Poet returned to take some residents on a creative journey of painting a watercolour landscape, poetry and bit of song thrown in for fun. Pete is a popular guest here at Cumberland Grange and he never fails to entertain and surprise.

The creative talent we uncovered was exceptional!

Family Duo Entertain

The very entertaining Father, Daughter singing duo of Daz and Steph came to entertain our residents for the first time. What a great experience we had. Very entertaining and we can't wait to see them again.
