Activities at Cumberland Grange Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Gosia Maliga

Activities Coordinator

I have been in the care sector since 2008, and I also have a degree in teaching. I am here to arrange and run a varied range of activities for our residents to take part in, keep them entertained and enrich their lives. From flower arranging, quizzes, arts and crafts to movies in the cinema, I try to make sure there is something for everyone here to take part in, and tailor events to suit each resident.

Singing for the Brain with Age UK Exeter

Exeter Age UK offer some fantastic activities which many of our residents really enjoy participating in.

Singing for the Brain is a really enjoyable afternoon, with a mix of show tunes and classic hits to join in with, and its not just for those living with dementia, as the sessions are open to everyone who enjoys group singing.

Gardening Club - Plant Pots at the Ready

Even though there’s still a bit of a chill in the air, there are plenty of things to be done in the garden and our Gardening Club members have been busy planting seeds ready for eventual planting out in the garden.

After looking through gardening magazines for inspiration and ideas, it was finally decided on a mixture of flowers, fruit and seasonal vegetables. Having the opportunity to plant, grow and maintain our raised beds is a real benefit for an individual’s wellbeing, and if things go well we will be reaping the rewards in our head chef’s seasonal dishes later in the year.

Easter Reminiscing at Pinhoe United Reform Church

Our residents regularly attend community events at the United Reform Church in Pinhoe and the recently themed Easter: When we were young was a great occasion for everyone to reminisce, as well as joining in the arts and crafts session decorating easter eggs.

Easter Egg Hunt

An Easter Egg Hunt with pupils from Monkerton Community Primary School was a great way to start off our celebrations. Several of our residents assisted pupils in finding the colourful eggs which had be carefully hidden around our garden.

We were delighted to be presented with a beautifully decorated handmade Easter Wreath by each class, which have been on display in our café areas throughout Easter.
