Activities at Cumberland Grange Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Gosia Maliga

Activities Coordinator

I have been in the care sector since 2008, and I also have a degree in teaching. I am here to arrange and run a varied range of activities for our residents to take part in, keep them entertained and enrich their lives. From flower arranging, quizzes, arts and crafts to movies in the cinema, I try to make sure there is something for everyone here to take part in, and tailor events to suit each resident.

Poetry Corner - From 8 – 98 we’re all young at heart.

We had a super afternoon when we visited Sylvania Community Stores and were welcomed into Pete’s Poetry Corner where we met our new friends Darcy & Evelin who joined us in helping to write a wonderful poem about friendship.

From 8 – 98 we’re all young at heart.

Our poem - 8 years old or 98 – we’re young at heart

New Friends, A happy afternoon

Together we sing a friendly tune

Spirits lifted, we feel so cool

New friendships made – we’re not at school!

Older and younger friends together

Let’s be friends for ever,

Eight years old or 98 – we’re young at heart

It’s never too late to start,

We brighten a wet and windy day

In our work and in our play,

Kindness, patience, sweetness and light

We will soon toss pancakes – a wonderful delight!

We feel warmer than the winds of June

Let’s all meet again soon!!

Scout - our Favourite Therapy Visitor

Scout has been visiting us for a little while now and as the weeks go by he is feeling more relaxed around us all - he is particularly fond of our very comfortable beds for a special bit of quiet one to one time.

Bringing Colour into Cumberland Grange

At Cumberland Grange we are lucky enough to be surrounded by wonderful outdoor spaces and we get outside as often as the weather will allow. With spring just around the corner, we are all looking forward to the warmer months ahead to enable us to make the most of our garden.

Until then, we are bringing the colours inside, and several of the people living with us have been busy creating some pretty flower arrangements to display around our home. Our creative group really enjoyed the afternoon, along with some favourite sweets, chocolates, cake and tea, it’s the perfect way to enjoy the company of friends whilst creating some beautiful displays for the benefit of everyone at Cumberland Grange.

Our ground floor café and dining room tables now all have an extra spot of colour for all to enjoy and bathed in today’s winter sunshine, really have put a smile on everyone’s’ faces.

An Afternoon Stroll on the Beach

A beautiful sunny January day in Devon is something to be enjoyed and so some of our residents wrapped up warm for an afternoon walk by the beach in Exmouth, followed by a warming cup of coffee. It was great to see everyone really enjoying the day.

With so much natural beauty on our doorstep in the Exeter area ,we really are spoilt for choice.

Burns Night Celebrations at Cumberland Grange

Residents celebrated Burns Night with an afternoon of Scottish music and songs entertained by Julia.

Later on everyone raised a dram to toast the occasion.
