Activities at Cumberland Grange Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Gosia Maliga

Activities Coordinator

I have been in the care sector since 2008, and I also have a degree in teaching. I am here to arrange and run a varied range of activities for our residents to take part in, keep them entertained and enrich their lives. From flower arranging, quizzes, arts and crafts to movies in the cinema, I try to make sure there is something for everyone here to take part in, and tailor events to suit each resident.

Springtime Colour at Cumberland Grange

There may still be a bit of a chill in the air, but Spring is definitely starting to make a welcome and colourful appearance in our garden and patio areas around the home.

Birds of Prey visit Cumberland Grange

Many of our residents recently had the chance to meet some magnificent birds of prey and learn more about the history and characteristics of the birds, as part of a very special animal therapy session.

The birds were brought in by David Buncle from Westcounty Falconry, who shared his great passion and knowledge with us all. Many of our residents were absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to be in such close proximity to these beautiful birds – a very special experience for everyone.

Wine Tasting - Swirl, Smell, Sip & Rate our new wines

Many of our residents who attended our recent Dining Experience Working Group requested that we change the wine on our menu here at Cumberland Grange, so in response we held a wine tasting afternoon.

A blind tasting ensured that it really was just the taste that mattered, and paired with a selection of cheeses we spent a really enjoyable moment together discussing and scoring the choice of red and white wines on offer, served by our very own sommelier Bob. The scores are in and we’ll be announcing the ratings soon to see what we’ll be serving on the menu shortly...

An Afternoon at the Museum

We were so lucky to spend the afternoon in the company of Fliss from the Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Exeter’s local world class museum.

Fliss brought along a great selection of colourful pieces and displays from the musuem’s fascinating collection, which allowed us reminisce from times gone by, as well as admiring the fantastic art and craftwork on show.

Fliss will be coming back to Cumberland Grange again in a few months time with another varied selection of items for us to discover – definitely a date for everyone’s’ diaries.

Afternoon Stroll on Exmouth Beach

When the sun is shining, we grab the opportunity to enjoy an afternoon walk on the beach. Exmouth beach was bathed in sunshine and several of our residents really enjoyed catching the afternoon rays.

Reflexology Taster Sessions

Reflexology is a deeply relaxing therapy that has been appreciated by many people for the benefits it can bring to both physical and emotional health.

The only real way to know if reflexology will help is give it a try! and with this in mind we are offering taster sessions for our residents here at Cumberland Grange next week.

Bookings are now open for everyone who would like to experience this taster treatment, please contact Goshia our Activity Coordinator
