Activities at Cumberland Grange Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Gosia Andrews

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Gosia and I am the Activities Co-Ordinator here at Cumberland Grange.

I have been in the care sector since 2008, and I also have a degree in teaching. I am here to arrange and run a varied Life Enrichment Programme which is full of fun activities for our residents to take part in. We do lots of different activities here which change on a regular basis, including weekly trips out in our mini bus, flower arranging, live musical performances, arts and crafts, cheese and wine nights and so much more. We also have groups which happen every week, mostly lead by our residents, including Poetry Club, Gardening Club, Politics and Pastries, Cumberland Grange Choir and Knit and Natter.

We have monthly resident meetings where we discuss life at Cumberland Grange. We talk about the activities that we currently run, including activities that our residents would like us to incorporate into the planner.

Making wishes come true is also something that we love to do. So, if our resident has a wish, together we try our best to make that happen, because life at Cumberland is about having fun and making even more special memories.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

A wonderful sing-a-long with Julia

Thank you to the wonderful Julia for joining us yesterday and entertaining us with your beautiful voice.

We had a great afternoon singing along and dancing to our favourite songs!

Julia will be joining us again on Sunday but with her Hospital Radio Exeter hat on along with Richard and Malcolm as they will be BROADCASTING from Cumberland Grange (recording the show ready to be released next Sunday, the 24th, 3pm-4pm). We have the absolute privilege of hosting Hospital Radio Exeter here as they celebrate 50 YEARS since starting this incredible voluntary service for the patients of the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and beyond.

Everyone can tune in to have a listen on Sunday the 24th at 3pm-4pm. Some of our amazing residents will be having a chat, including Jo one of our residents who was one of Hospital Radios first volunteers (how amazing is that!), and there will be some great songs played, too!

If anyone has any song requests and/or shouts outs please just let us know.

If you have an Alexa, just ask her to play Hospital Radio Exeter. Alternatively, if you would like to listen on your mobile you can download the app and if you want to listen online, head over to the Hospital Radio Exeter website and follow the link.

Manned totally by volunteers, we think Hospital Radio Exeter is truly magnificent and we love being apart of their journey! For anyone who wishes to donate to support the amazing work they do, head over to their website.

A mini bus trip to Dartmoor

This morning we took a trip to Burrator Reservoir on Dartmoor to get some fresh air and take in the beautiful scenery. We stopped along the way to enjoy some of Dartmoors hidden gems, all before heading back home for a cup of tea and a fresh slice of cake!

A trip to one of our local pubs

This evening we took a little midweek trip to a local pub for a pint after our dinner.

As we sat around the table together we reminisced and shared stories which had us smiling ear to ear.

A lovely evening with lovely company!

Knit and Natter

Our wonderful group is growing week on week.

From beginners to advanced knitters (and professional natters!) we have such a lovely time in one another’s company, sharing our knowledge and learning new skills.

We welcome family, friends and our amazing community to come and join us if you’d like to knit with us! There’s always plenty of tea, coffee, luxury hot chocolates and cake to help with our creativity. Thursday mornings at 11am.

MAKING SPECIAL MEMORIES

Wow, just wow!

What a truly heartwarming afternoon making special memories for our wonderful Alyson.

Alyson told us ‘It would be my dream to see a parade of dogs’.

So with the incredible help from our totally wonderful community, we were able to make that happen for her today!

Doggies and their owners took a walk around our garden before coming in one by one to get lots of fuss, treats and tennis balls from Alyson and the rest of our residents.

We had plenty of cuddles, ate lots of cake and spent time together all whilst listening to Jj Wilde play the Saxophone so beautifully.

None of this would have been possible if it wasn’t for our community and beyond. THANK YOU so much to everyone who joined us! We are beyond grateful.

Another huge thank you to our staff who supported the event, especially our fantastic kitchen team who made us an abundance of cakes and biscuits.

A truly moving afternoon!
