Activities at Cubbington Mill Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life. The activities encourage interaction on a one to one basis, in small groups, in large groups and some are designed for the whole home including staff to be involved in.

We are registered with the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) which ensures we are able to achieve and continually progress to enhance the quality of life for those we support in the home. We provide entertainers such as singers, musicians, magicians, puppeteers, poets and dancers. We also have regular exercise classes and arts and craft classes. Relatives and visitors will be able to see what me make in these classes on display around the home. We have regular trips out on the mini bus to visit garden centres, enjoy high tea, visit the butterfly farm and spend the day at the zoo with a picnic. We encourage the local community, schools, colleges and relatives to come and join us for activities, tea and cake and to visit to share their skills as much as possible.

Staff from across the home are always willing to help and share their knowledge and skills across a whole range of activities we have had everything from carers preforming Bollywood style dancing to cooking classes from the chef. We feel activities are a vital part of the residents lives to ensure they are stimulated mentally and entertained.

Resident's wish fulfilled!

To run alongside the Resident Of The Day Programme, General Manager Laura, launched 'Make A Wish On A Star'.

So on that day, resident Peter made his wish to visit Hatton Country World, and with the glorious sunshine we set off on our expedition. Residents admired the animals in their habitats and even had a 1-1 show and tell display of the owls in all their glory!

Residents thanked Activity Coordinator Rose and Volunteer Glenda for all their hard work and dedication to making the trip a success! On their return, residents, Peter, Stan, Cheryl and Chris stopped to tell residents waiting for their arrival at reception all about their day and to make their wishes known because they do get fulfilled!

Santa was on hand to sell mince pies and mulled wine, student placement Evie manned the tombola stall alongside resident Chris, accompanied by locals with their handmade knitted items, brilliant crafts and scrumptious cakes.

The year 6 pupils of Cubbington Primary School kickstarted the fayre off with carols in reception for all to sing along to. A huge thank you to all who attended to make the afternoon so special.

Alzheimer's Society Elf Day

Activity Coordiantor, Rose, swapped her uniform for an elf costume on National Elf Day (Thursday December 5th) in an effort to raise funds to help people living with dementia.

Launched by the Alzheimer’s Society and delivered direct from the North Pole, Elf Day was created to sprinkle some festive cheer on fundraising towards finding a cure for dementia.

From stripy socks to head-to-toe elf outfits, anything goes – there’s snow better way to raise money to help beat dementia.

On the day, residents and staff at Cubbington Mill were able to enjoy elf-themed games as the team at the home donned their elfish apparel.

Cheryl, Resident Ambassador, said: “It is always a very festive day and the staff always make us laugh in their costumes. What a wonderful way to raise money for charity! Rose is always the naughty elf anyway….!”

Festival of Trees

On Monday Resident Ambassador, Cheryl, alongside Residents and close friends, Stan, Hazel, Pat & Janet, received an extra special invitation to a local community event.

The invitation included: an extra special chance to spend time alongside other local care homes, and listen to a live performance by the pupils from Warwick Prep School in the presence of the 690th High Sheriff of Warwick.

Remembrance Day Commemoration

Cubbington Mill commemorated Remembrance Day on Monday 11th November.

They joined the rest of the United Kingdom in holding a two-minute silence at 11am.

As well as marking Remembrance Day by wearing poppies and watching the televised service from The Cenotaph, residents took part in therapeutic activities such as a biodegradable balloon release, and a remembrance sing along.

Stanley, a resident at Cubbington Mill said: “It is very important that we keep the memories of those who fought alive and that we also think about those involved in conflicts around the world today. In addition to this I released a biodegradable balloon in memory of my beautiful wife Mary, it was a very emotional moment but very pleased I did something for her too.”
