Activities at Crabwall Hall Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Jacqui Cameron

Activities Coordinator

We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love.

Month of 'Love and Happiness'

At the beginning of February, we launched our month of ‘Love and Happiness’.  We set up another photo booth in our reception area and asked residents and members of the team to tell us what ‘Love and Happiness’ means to them.

Pancakes and Proscecco

This week our residents have enjoyed two annual celebrations at Crabwall Hall - Valentine’s Day and Shrove Tuesday.

Valentine’s Day was celebrated with chocolates, prosecco, poems and love stories. The following day residents had a go at pancake tossing then tasting a variety of pancakes and fillings including chocolate and hazelnut and the traditional lemon and sugar.

Vaccine brings joy to residents and staff

All staff and residents at Barchester’s Crabwall Hall Care Home, in Mollington, are all delighted to have received the first dose of their Covid-19 vaccinations at the home and The Countess of Chester Hospital, after what has been a very challenging year for everyone. Many of the staff have also received their second dose. The home is now 95% vaccinated.

General Manager, Kirsty Jones said: “We’ve all been through such a difficult time and this feels like such a big step on the way to getting back to some normality. I am so proud of the team and how they have worked together and continue to do so and we are all so grateful to be prioritised to receive the vaccine first.  Now that everyone in the home has had their first dose, we feel like we’ve started on the long road to recovery”.

A little pamper and chat

Residents at Crabwall Hall love to have their nails done and enjoy a little pampering from time to time.  The home would normally have a manicurist and chiropodist visit fortnightly but due to the pandemic this is not possible, and to brighten up our ladies days the activities team have been stepping into add a little colour and paint their nails along with soothing, relaxing hand massages.  Everyone enjoys these little moments to chat too!

Resident centred activities

When the weather is not  good enough for a stroll around the garden, or when residents simply wish to stay in their rooms, there are always plenty of activities that can be room based. Each day the homes activities team deliver resident centred activities and join them to play a  selection of games from word puzzles to snakes and ladders and much more!  Mary, recently enjoyed childhood favourite, snakes and ladders with Carolyn, activities coordinator, and there was a little friendly competition.  This game not only keeps the mind active but improves eye and hand coordination too.  When a resident completes a puzzle too there is lots of excitement in the air.  The home offers a varied life enrichment programme delivered around residents interests and hobbies past and present.

Chippy tea treat for Residents

Residents of Crabwall Hall love the treat of a chippy tea just like the rest of us and recently enjoyed fish and chips from the homes local chip shop.  Residents were given the choice of fish, sausage or chicken with chips, curry sauce or gravy and peas followed by a delicious fruit flan especially made by the homes hospitality tea.  Residents enjoyed a cup of tea to wash down their tasty treat.   These evenings always sends a ripple of excitement throughout the home and is a real special treat for everyone.
