Activities at Crabwall Hall Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Jacqui Cameron

Activities Coordinator

We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love.

Cheers for Beers

For National Beer day today we offered residents at Crabwall Hall the opportunity to try some craft ales and lagers for an afternoon treat. The bizarrely named selection included 'Bishops Finger', 'Doom Bar', and 'Ghost Ship'. Alan, Sheila, Jean D, Christine, Sheila and Jean T tried them all with some pub style nibbles too, and all concluded that the alcoholic Ginger Ale was the best, though Alan has fond memories of a pint of the Cornish Doom Bar when he lived in the region.

Residents enjoy tour of Hereford Cathedral

We had a lovely time joining the team from Hereford Cathedral for an exciting virtual session.

We enjoyed a glimpse of this spectacular building and its treasures in a series of short pre-recorded videos. From the stunning gardens which lead down to the River Wye, to the Mappa Mundi and Chained Library.

It was wonderful to learn more about the history and beauty of Hereford Cathedral.

Home honours carers for National Carers Week

Residents at Crabwall Hall care home in Chester, run by Barchester Healthcare, are celebrating National Carers’ Week, which takes place from June 7-13. Residents wanted to thank all the wonderful staff at the home, whose hard work and dedication make a real difference to the lives of those living in their care.

Carers Week is an annual event to raise awareness of caring, highlighting the challenges carers face, and recognising the contribution they make to our residents, families and communities throughout the UK. The theme for Carers Week this year is ‘Making caring visible and valued’ - to shine a light on all those who work tirelessly behind the scenes to care for vulnerable people in our communities.

Staff were treated to Lindt chocolates and thank you cards from Barchester.  Residents also gave thanks by telling the carers how special they make their time at Crabwall Hall and for all that they do.

Home go on safari

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Crabwall were treated to an exciting live streaming tour of Knowsley Safari, hosted by Engagement Assistant, Verity Dann.

Knowsley Safari has been welcoming visitors for 50 years since it opened in July 1971.  Situated in the Knowsley area of Merseyside, the safari park is home to 750 animals on a 550 acre site, it boasts the longest safari drive in the UK.

Residents enjoy floristry demonstration

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Crabwall Manor care home were treated to an interactive virtual floristry masterclass courtesy of Master Florist, Michal Kowalski, from Blooming Haus.

Blooming Haus started with a small pop-up shop in Chelsea.  They have since blossomed spectacularly on to the floristry scene as ‘floral engineers’, carving themselves an outstanding reputation as one of the UK’s most innovative floral design studios. The company is the vision of Master Florist, Michal Kowalski and his business partner, Michael Dariane. The pair bring a completely fresh approach to floristry and their ambition to push the boundaries of traditional floristry has laid the foundations of Blooming Haus’ success to date.

Trips return!

After a very long and tough 18 months, Residents were finally allowed to leave the grounds of the care home for a much longed for change of scenery and trip out in the mini bus we have had, but not used for over 6 months. Restrictions were lifted further in May when residents were allowed to get off the bus and take a walk around Parkgate after their ice cream. Trevor, Jean, Christine, Marion, Sheila, Bruce and Pat have all enjoyed trips out so far. We’ve also had a fish and chip trip out too, with a brief visit to Raby Mere, Eastham Ferry and West Kirby! Trevor and Pat enjoyed a walk around Parkgate Country park too.
