Activities at Crabwall Hall Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Jacqui Cameron

Activities Coordinator

We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love.

WW2 virtual talk with Blenheim Palace

Ahead of Armed Forces Day, we were transported back in time for a World War II themed talk and tour of Blenheim Palace, hosted by Antonia Keaney, the Palace’s social historian and author.

Entitled ‘Evacuees and Espionage,’ Antonia’s wartime themed talk focused on how the Marlborough family, estate staff and the Palace itself played a full and energetic part in the war effort.

The talk and tour told the story of how the Palace prepared for the worst, survived the onslaught of 400 boys being evacuated to Blenheim and kept the secrets of MI5.

It was a lovely experience, enjoyed by all.

Century celebrations for Resident

Celebrations have been in full swing at Crabwall Hall, as one of its residents, Monica Littler reached her centenary year in style.

Monica was joined by family, staff and other residents as she received a Birthday Card from the Queen in recognition of her landmark 100th birthday. Adhering to current Covid-19 restrictions 30 members of Monica’s family gathered in the home’s back garden to take it in turns to bring gifts and cards and to pass on their best wishes inside our Outdoor Visitor Suite.

Monica also received a special hand delivered bouquet of flowers from a representative of the WAAF, due to her service history before she was married in the 1940’s.

We're coming up roses in the beautiful gardens

At every opportunity we are enjoying the great outdoors this summer.  The gardens and sunny courtyard at Crabwall Hall are a great inspiration for us thanks to the gardeners and mainentance department for keeping everywhere looking so beautiful.  Friends can enjoy the magnificent views and blooms together in the gardens

Home enjoy live entertainment

Residents and staff were very excited to be able to welcome back performers into the home this month after months of not being allowed to enter.

Popular singer “Britt” arrived to sing firm favourites such as “Lily Marlene”, “Tie a yellow ribbon” and “A nightingale sang in Berkley square”.

It was lovely to see residents singing and clapping along again and they were delighted to see a live performance in the home again.

Daily news with sherry

This month we have launched a new element to our daily “Sherry and Socialising” and we have called it “Daily News”. The feature includes a review of the daily news headlines from the Daily Mail newspaper, with discussions arising from them. After we have discussed the day’s events we then tackle the crossword as a group effort. It is great fun working together and has proved very popular with all residents having a go at answering the clues.
Residents love to work together to work out the answers and finish the puzzle.

Pub lunch for Father's Day

Our residents were delighted to be able to go out for a pub lunch this week, just in time for Fathers’ Day. Del, Trevor and Alan joined fellow resident, Christine with our activities team, Carolyn and Karen for the short trip to the local favourite pub, The Little Owl.

After a short perusal of the menus, the men chose the ‘cowboy burger’ and Christine chose scampi and chips washed down with a glass of their favourite tipple whilst thoroughly enjoying their meals. It was wonderful to be allowed to board the bus and eat out again for the first time in 16 months.
