What our families say on carehome.co.uk

"I went to look around for respite care for my 86 year old dad. The staff were all extremely friendly - the general feeling in the home was warm, caring & friendly and the meals being given looked fantastic. The rooms had a home from home feeling and the grounds & gardens were lovely."

"My father regularly uses Crabwall Hall for respite to enable me to go on short breaks. I really appreciate the professional, courteous communication I have with all the members of staff with whom I come into contact. Dad is always very well cared for when he stays and speaks fondly of his time there when he is back home. It is so important for me to be able to relax when I am away for a break. I know he is well cared for and if there happened to be any problem it would be dealt with."

"My Mum came to Crabwall Hall for respite care on the 4th February 2025. The staff led by the manager have all been amazing from the initial contact, to arranging the respite, being flexible with us and on the day of arrival itself. I can't praise them highly enough! The home is wonderful and of a very high standard and although Mum took a little while to settle in, I'm sure she will very soon!"

"My friend appears happy and well cared for. It is lovely to be able to visit her in the garden after such a long period of lockdown."

"We looked at a number of care homes for my mother and the thing that appealed to us straight away with Crabwall was the friendliness of the staff. There is always a nice busy atmosphere and I have never had a poor experience with anyone. If you ask for something to be done it gets done. It' a really homely atmosphere and I would recommend it to anyone."

"My father would undoubtedly not be alive today if it wasn't for Crabwall Hall. He has sad, neglected and in a state when he came here last October. He is now happy, comfortable, cared for and loves living here - couldn't ask for more. The staff here and amazing, kind, caring and patient - just the best."

"Visiting Mum yesterday was great. Due to lockdown, I have not seen her for months. We kept a social distance of 3m but unfortunately, the table with the visit next to us was too close, although it was 3m away. The lady was shouting and over talking us, making it very difficult to hear Mum. If they were further apart it would be fantastic."

"After a stay in hospital, my daughter was helping me at my home. After five weeks she needed to return home to family. She asked me which care home I would like to go to and Crabwall Hall was my immediate choice as I had visited a friend many times in the home. I have not been disappointed, it has been even better. A lovely, friendly place with helpful staff."

"Visit to see Mum today in the pod worked very well. The organisation was excellent. Almost as easy as the days when we could visit her in her own room."

"We found all the staff to be extremely welcoming and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. The setting is clean, tidy and has a very homely feel. Mum's move into Barchester Crabwall Hall was managed sensitively, with care and safely: both towards Mum and us, the family, at what is a very difficult and emotional time. The staff have been supportive, attentive and also kept us informed. Attention to detail and risk associated with Covid have been well managed. A very professional, caring team. I look forward to Covid restrictions lifting so that Mum can enjoy more activities, visits and "normal" times, including trips and visits."

"A wonderful mix of staff, who are all professional, dedicated and truly eclectic. This is the strongest part of the home. Unfortunately, the visiting arrangements, which have been draconian, are still quite restricted and you need to take this into account when deciding."

"My mother has been a resident at Crabwall Hall since September 2021. In that time she has received the best of care, through general care, attention to her health wellbeing, and wonderful food all done with respect kindness and laughter. My sister and I are so pleased we found Crabwall Hall. We now feel we are part of the community as well."

"My mother is very well cared for and has improved in many ways, physically, mentally and emotionally since arriving at Crabwall. The staff are very kind and thoughtful and I always receive a warm and friendly welcome when I visit. I only have limited knowledge of the meals and activities so not sure how much choice she has in either of these, though she rarely complains to me. The staff work well and remain cheerful in difficult circumstances with the building works."

"The care home is in a good, rural location with nice grounds, and they have a nice outdoor space for residents to get fresh air. My mum has been there for two-three weeks, and I couldn't fault the home. The staff were helpful and caring, and the food was delicious. My mum will be wanting to return for respite in the future."

"We were shown around by friendly knowledgeable staff. All the people we met enjoyed being at Crabwell Hall. The seating areas, garden and dining area were like a very pleasant hotel. We were very impressed. The location is quite rural. The only difficulty was very little parking available, but that may just have been due to circumstances as there was a car park."

"I've been here for 2 weeks and I've been very happy. I'm thinking of staying for good. The staff are excellent. End of 4 weeks and changed my mind. Very good grounds for visitors and able to walk impressive. The medical side is rubbish for me at 96."

"This was my first visit to Crabwall Hall. I was immediately impressed by the place, furnishings, cleanliness, friendly staff, comfortable rooms lovely garden area, accessible by walking aids. The lunch was lovely, beautifully prepared and served damask tablecloths and napkins. All staff were friendly and inclusive. Having no experience of care homes I was amazed at the programme of activities."

"My mum recently stayed at Crabwall Hall for three weeks of respite care. We couldn't have asked for a friendlier or more welcoming staff. My mum's room was lovely and the home and gardens are beautiful. Visitors were welcome at any time. I would highly recommend it."

"My mum has thrived here. They've encouraged her to participate in activities she enjoys, whether it's a lively game of bingo or a relaxing session of quizzing. They've also been fantastic in helping her manage her medication and daily needs. Most importantly, they've created a sense of community and belonging for her. She's made new friends and seems genuinely happy, which is all I could ever ask for. If you're looking for a care home that offers exceptional care in a warm and welcoming environment, look no further than here. They've truly become a second home for my mum and I can't recommend them highly enough."

"My mother stayed for two weeks respite care. This was a difficult time for her. The staff were very kind, cheerful and helpful and made her stay as comfortable as possible. In particular, the manager made every effort to accommodate our mother's wishes and was flexible and positive. This flowed down to all her team. Thank you."

"Mum has just had a two-week stay at Crabwall Hall; she settled in very well and enjoyed sitting outside in the garden and the afternoon activities in the lounge. All the staff were very friendly and caring. If Mum needed a little holiday again, I would be happy for her to stay again."

"We have taken our mum to Barchester Crabwall Hall Care Home for a couple of weeks respite care following a spell in hospital with pneumonia and subsequent breathing difficulties. Every single member of staff has been kind and caring and very patient towards her, even when she has been behaving in a difficult manner! We could not have wished for more. Everyone who has visited her there has been extremely impressed with the facilities and the care provided. If she needs any further nursing care or respite care in the future, we will definitely be requesting a place at Crabwall."

"I, as usual, was treated in a friendly way as possible. My name was remembered by most staff which surprised me. I found the lack of clothe pegs in my room annoying. I found the fee expensive."

"The day arrived for us to put Mum in a home. She is of sound mind and body but she had given up on life and stopped looking after herself since Dad died. She wasn't eating, washing or taking care of herself and was incredibly lonely (her choice). She was literally smoking and drinking. My brother and I viewed many homes of a huge price range. Some we didn't like the staff, some the smell, others the plastic furniture etc. Then we looked at Barchester Crabwall Hall Care Home in Chester. From the first moment we knocked at the door, all our lives have been transformed. Mum is a totally, utterly different person. She settled in well and it was a big adjustment for us all. The staff supported me in understanding why she would be acting in a certain way (temporarily carrying around a huge bag of possessions), repetitive conversations, her opinions. Eighteen months later; we are so happy, she's a joy to visit and thanks to their social media page, I can see what she's been up to, as she forgets. The food is outstanding and so is the care."

"My brother has been living in Crabwall Hall for 3 years now. Since living there he is noticeably happier and in a better place mentally than living at home alone. All the staff are so caring, patient and welcoming to residents and family alike and happy to chat about any concerns which might occur. My brother tells everyone, “ Living at Crabwall is like living in a hotel”. It has been a lifeline for him and for me as his only family member."

"Excellent and caring staff that really know my mum. They keep in touch about anything I need to know and this makes a stress-free experience at a time when you worry most about their care. A stimulating programme of activities that keep her interested and young at heart. Well done to all of the staff team."

"We are extremely happy with the care provided to our aunt. She has dementia and the staff are wonderful at helping her to join in the wide range of activities each day. Her general welfare, safety and happiness are important to us and we feel Barchester Crabwall Hall Care Home achieves a great balance for her. Staff are always welcoming and approachable."

"All staff go above and beyond, very approachable. I do feel the dynamics of the residents have changed and there are a lot with low-level dementia. This has impacted on my relative as she can't have the same companionship as when she first arrived. The activities are geared to the dementia residents which does not always suit my relative."

"Mum is very happy here. She really likes the carers and they like her. It is top-quality care but it is expensive compared to other facilities. The location and gardens are first-class. Mum's care and happiness are most important."
