Activities at Cossins House Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Lisa Unsworth

Activities Coordinator

I have been working in care since the age of 16, when leaving school. Over the years, I have been a senior care assistant, administrator, home trainer and activities coordinator. I really enjoy working with the elderly residents.

Christmas Preparations

Staff and residents each took part to design a vintage style Christmas tree and a homemade advent calendar each containing a small gift and chocolates.

All residents will receive a gift throughout December. We took vintage style pictures of all staff and residents at Cossins House using a vintage filter and mounted them on to gift tags.

We made Christmas crackers from toilet rolls and newspaper, which we stained in coffee to make them look dated. We dipped old wooden cotton reels into gold glitter to finish the tree off with a sparkle.

The residents really enjoy looking at the tree and taking the time to recognise each of the pictures of themselves and staff. After Christmas, we will be using the photo tags as bookmarks.

The Festive Spirit

It was a cheery start to December at Cossins House, when Carer, Tina, dressed up as Mini Mouse to surprise our residents. We smiled, laughed and had lots of fun watching Mini Mouse dance and greet every member of the home.

Getting Creative

Cossins House is getting creative by painting firework pictures to decorate our lounge, all ready for bonfire night. There were beautiful colours and great designs by our residents.

,

Carving at Cossins

Residents had a lovely afternoon at Cossins House carving pumpkins for Halloween, each designing their own pumpkins and looking forward to pumpkin pie. There was lots of fun and laughter during the afternoon and even more mess, followed by tea and cake and social networking.

,

Cooking Class

Residents had a lovely afternoon getting hands on with making cheese scones for all to enjoy. Whilst preparing the scones, each resident engaged with each other about what they use to enjoy baking at home for their families.

Pet Therapy

Residents have been missing visits from their animal friends during this difficult time, so care Staff decided to bring their dogs to Cossins House to spend time with the residents. Dogs are wonderful for companionship. Ron was delighted to meet Alfie and give him a cuddle. Ron has always been fond of dogs and enjoys spending time with them for comfort.
