Activities at Cookridge Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Laura Marshall

Head Activities Coordinator (on Maternity leave)

My name is Laura and I am the Head Activities Coordinator here at Cookridge Court. I have worked in care since 2014 and get so much satisfaction out of knowing I have made a difference to people’s days and have filled the home with a sense of community and happiness. We have created a wonderful culture within our home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active and ensure we all know each residents' preferences so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. The strong relationships we build with our residents, their families and friends is essential to our homely feel.

World Cocktail Day

Did you know that today is World Cocktail Day? The day was celebrated with fun-filled activities and of course lots of cocktails and mocktails.

The residents were treated to a cocktail tasting session and a fun cocktail themed quiz.

And our talented chef prepared a variety of refreshing alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, smoothies and juices, so we can stay hydrated too.

Conversations by the Pond

We had a lovely time joining Henry Slator for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘Conversations at the Pond’.

Henry had an unusual writing journey, which many of our residents found inspiring, he underwent chemotherapy in early 2020, which allowed him to rediscover his light-hearted outlook on life by imagining conversations with creatures in and around his large garden pond and adding buckets of fun.

The entertaining Conversations at the Pond, with its mass of colourful illustrations, took our residents along his journey, they felt inspired, cheered and loved hearing all about Henry’s experiences.

Landmark birthday celebrations

Celebrations have been in full swing at Cookridge Court Care Home as one of its residents reaches her 104th Birthday in style.

Joyce was joined by staff, relatives, friends and other residents as she marked her special day of turning 104 in style. Team members gathered together to serenade a chorus of ‘Happy birthday’ and presented Joyce with a special birthday cake made by the home’s chef Lindsay. We then toasted this marvellous milestone with a glass of fizz to mark this wonderful day.

The Birthday Girl said: “it is just another day to me, but I am so privileged to reach this age.”
Activity Coordinator Laura asked Joyce “what her secret was to reaching this fabulous age?”
Joyce’s response was, “Cherish every moment you live, the good and the bad. Always remain happy & positive no matter.”

History of the Astor's

Our residents came together to enjoy an exciting virtual talk courtesy of the team at National Trust Talks Service.  The illustrated talk took us closer to one of Cliveden’s most famous families, the Astors. Our residents were able to discover what motivated William Waldorf Astor, America’s richest man, to purchase Cliveden in 1893 and how the estate became the centre of high society in the 1920 s and 30 s thanks to his son Waldorf and daughter in law Nancy Astor.

The Wallace Collection

We had a lovely time joining Holly and Marie-Therese from the Wallace Collection, for a virtual introduction to the Collection, followed by a sensory exploratory walk through one of the museum’s most famous landscape paintings.   The Collection ranges from Old Master paintings to 18th century French furniture, arms and armour.  We all had a wonderful time and cannot wait to put our creative skills to a test and paint some landscapes in the upcoming days.

St Patrick's Day

What a wonderful St Patrick’s Day we have had at Cookridge Court today. We started off with a St Patrick’s Day party, with special guest Emma James, who performed magnificently for us. Everyone was dancing and singing along to some classic Irish songs. Head chef Sinead, produce a lunchtime traditional Irish cuisine, with dishes such as Coddle and Bacon & cabbage, finishing off with a classic Irish cream cheesecake, which definitely when down a treat.

The afternoon consisted of fun, including Irish quiz using the Oomph Wellness alongside a nice cold glass of Guinness
Everyone has had a wonderful day “
