Activities at Collingtree Park Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as they can, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join in with activities and events as often as they can.

Skye Summerton

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Skye and I'm the Activities Coordinator here at Collingtree Park care home. My role is to enrich the lives of our residents by providing stimulating and person-centred activities. We offer something for everyone, including arts and crafts, games and live entertainment including visits to places of interest in the local area. I love to provide one-to-one time and sensory activities with residents who need a little more support.

Getting to know our residents better is so important, and through regular meetings with family and friends I can gain a greater understanding of their loved ones' interests and life prior to joining the Collingtree Park community.

We are an animal friendly care home with a resident cat called 'Bella' and daily visits from our residents' family dogs. We understand the power of PET Therapy and welcome animals of all sizes from mini beasts to the quarterly Alpaca visits a local farm.

We are always open to new ideas. If you would like to get involved in any of our Life Enrichment activities or have a skill, or project you'd like to share with our residents, please click here to contact me direct. New entertainers and community links are always welcome.

National Dog Day

As well as furry family members, we have regularly scheduled visits from Eva the Pets as Therapy dog and her owner Gaye. Collingtree Park is a dog-friendly care home, and we welcome (well-trained) dogs to visit our residents and staff, provided they are kept with their owner at all times.

Andy Performs Musical Numbers

Thank you to Andy for a fabulous piano performance for our Daisy Lane community. Residents enjoyed classics from Phantom of the Opera, All Creatures Great and Small, as well as musical numbers from ABBA and Dirty Dancing!

Mavis and Jean particularly loved 'Amazing Grace' and 'White Cliffs of Dover', and sang every word. Thank you Andy, we can't wait to have you back.

Music and Movement; Yoga and Dance

Music and Movement and Chair Yoga- keeping our residents active throughout the week. Our residents (and staff) enjoyed light exercises, stretching and relaxing throughout our chair yoga session. Then we picked up the pace for music and movement in the afternoon - where Pam and Margaret taught Gemma and Skye how to waltz!

Bowls with Gemma

A Snapshot of carpet bowls and we've caught Nanette sharing her winning secrets with Gemma. As you can see, the prize bag has been significantly replenished, so it was all to play for today, with Pam Bailey taking 1st prize!

We'll be back again next week, where residents will be playing in teams to see which colour comes out on top.

Baking Club on Daisy Lane

This week we were making fruit flans, tasting all of the different fruits and talking about the baking we did as children. The conversation and reminiscing generated by baking activities draws on childhood memories and encourages residents to share their memories with each other.

Everyday activities like baking are beneficial for older people living with dementia, as it is both stimulating and calming. Baking can help to bring back memories, stimulate the senses and improves appetite (as you can see from our photos!).

Our residents loved making, tasting and sharing their fruit flan with their friends and staff members on the floor. What shall we bake next week?

Sunshine and Gardening

We were lucky with the sunshine today our residents popped on their sun hats to enjoy some of the fresh produce from our garden, including tomatoes and blueberries, which have grown tremendously over the Summer!
