Activities at Cheverton Lodge Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians, as well as art therapy, flower arranging, Exercise to music and quizzes. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as they can, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join in with activities and events as often as they can.

Life at Cheverton Lodge Care Home

Finsbury Park Outing , Finsbury Park Outing

Finsbury Park Outing

Residents enjoyed a trip out to Finsbury Park, where they had a walk by the lake, fed swans and ducks and finished off with a well-deserved cup of coffee and some cake.

Puppet Show

The puppet show was an entertainment for all residents, but we discovered that it had a really positive, therapeutic effect on those leaving with dementia.

The show brought back memories from their childhoods and from times when raising their own children, many residents talked about past seaside trips and other traditional puppet shows. All residents were calmer, more sociable and happier. Everyone really enjoyed the performance and we look forward to having them back again.

Queen's Birthday

We had a lovely afternoon tea party to celebrate the Queen's birthday. Ailsa, a new member of the activities team, delighted us with a musical show for the residents, family and friends. Everyone was singing, dancing and having fun.

102nd Birthday Celebrations

102nd Birthday Celebrations

Three residents at Cheverton Lodge all celebrated reaching their 102nd birthday with a joint celebration that took place at the home.

Rosina, (born 10th January 1917), Violet (born 10th February 1917) and Lawrence (born 5th March 1917) had a big joint birthday party at the home with residents, staff, relatives and friends of the home in April.

Cheverton Lodge's Head Chef baked a special birthday sponge cake for all 3 residents to enjoy, which was made up of bananas, almonds, vanilla and whipped cream, and topped up with fresh strawberries. The kitchen team also prepared a tasty spread of delicious sandwiches, sweet and savoury finger food, and bubbly to toast with.

Dance Fever

Cheerful songs from Latin America were performed by the Iberic Dancer Group that was lead by an amazing and inspiring lady, Elsa Perez, who continues to dance and enjoy discovering new rhythms well into her 80s. It's never too late!

Fashion Show Day

Kissing It Better, an organisation that seeks to improve patient support across the healthcare sector, arranged a fashion show day at Cheverton Lodge with the help of staff at the home.

Nurses and carers were our top models, and residents also got the opportunity to enjoy live musical entertainment by Nicola, have their make-up done by professionals, and buy trendy clothes. The event was even filmed by an ITV reporter!
