Activities at Chater Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Maria Durrant

Activities Coordinator

Hello. I am Maria and I have lived in Ketton for most of my life. I worked at the local primary school before joining Chater Lodge in 2019. My first role here was as a Dining Host and have now found my passion in creating an interesting and inclusive programme of activities for all our residents. I like having fun with residents, dressing up, singing songs and celebrating special events. I love being a part of the team here and my career change to Activities Coordinator is the best thing I have ever done.

Life at Chater Lodge Care Home

Barchester Presents Cheque to Local Charity

The Chater Lodge and Tixover House care homes in Ketton and Tixover recently presented the Evergreen Care Trust with a cheque for £420.

The grant is to support their Dementia Friendly Tea which is run by volunteers and is held on the last Tuesday of the month, between 2pm- 4pm at the Free Church in Kesteven road, Stamford. The service is free for participants to attend. Evergreen are creating a safe space for those living with Dementia and their companions to come along, meet people, have a drink and a cake and the opportunity to have access to Dementia specific activities.

The grant had been awarded by Barchester’s Charitable Foundation, a charity that helps older people and adults with a disability or mental health problems across England, Scotland and Wales by offering grants to help people connect or re-connect with others in their local community.

The care homes were invited to a small gathering at the Evergreen Offices to gift the cheque and celebrate their being awarded the grant.

Ed Bailey. Volunteer Service Manager at Evergreen Care said “thank you so much to the Barchester Charitable Foundation for their support and generous donation which will make a huge positive difference to our Dementia Friendly Tea in Stamford”

Zoe Postgate and Ive Alexander. General Manager’s at Chater Lodge and Tixover House said: “We are always keen to show as much support as we can to local charities. Knowing that the grant will benefit those in our local community who have been touched by dementia means a lot to us as a home, our residents and their loved ones”

Making a Wish Come True

Resident, Sylvie, at the Chater Lodge Care Home, who was once an au pair in France, wished to revisit the country and relive her precious memories. So, as we couldn't take Sylvie to France, the home decided to bring France to her.

Our colleagues embraced the spirit of France with fancy dress, our team in the kitchen went all out with a themed menu and our home was adorned in French Decorations.

Sylvie has lived at  Chater Lodge for a number of years and is beloved by staff and residents alike. Staff at the home were delighted to be a part of making her dream come true, as they knew how much it meant to her, and they all wanted to be there to see the smile on Sylvie’s face when her dream was realised.

Dreams Come True

Resident, Michael Cunningham at Chater Lodge had always wanted to drive a tank! so staff at the home made his wish a reality proving the old adage, it’s never too late.

Michael came to Chater Lodge over the summer months and is already deeply beloved by staff and residents alike. Staff at the home were delighted to be a part of making his dream come true, as they knew how much it meant to him, and they all wanted to be there to see the smile on Michael's face when his dream was realised.

Staff first found out about Michael dream when a chance conversation came about after Michael put a letter in the homes post a wish box, where residents can make a wish for anything they still wish to experience in life.

Today his wish came true!

When Zoo-Lab Came to Visit

Chater Lodge Care Home, in Ketton, was full of animal mischief on Thursday when the mobile zoo came to visit the home.

Residents at Chater Lodge Care Home were pleasantly surprised to see animals such as Connie the Gecko, Elvis the Spider, Casper the Snake and Katie the Rat join them in our café area as Zoo-Lab paid a visit.

Trip to the Garden Centre

Our residents and colleagues enjoyed a trip out together to the local garden centre.

The coming autumn weather and cooling conditions didn’t stop the residents looking at all the plants, shrubs and garden ornaments too, which sparked lots of conversation of when they tended to their own gardens – really happy memories!

Our residents put their garden knowledge to good use as they ably assisted our homes gardener in choosing a variety of plants and fauna for our home.

After a busy afternoon of window shopping we headed into the warmth for a well deserved cup of tea.
