Activities at Chater Lodge Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life. We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Maria Durrant
Hello. I am Maria and I have lived in Ketton for most of my life. I worked at the local primary school before joining Chater Lodge in 2019.
My first role here was as a Dining Host and have now found my passion in creating an interesting and inclusive programme of activities for all our residents.
I like having fun with residents, dressing up, singing songs and celebrating special events. I love being a part of the team here and my career change to Activities Coordinator is the best thing I have ever done.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Chater Lodge Care Home

Julia and her dogs
Resident’s and staff got to meet Julia and her dogs Willow and Gibson, she visited residents in their rooms. Julia is the local dog trainer and works at a vets, so was able to answer any of the resident’s questions they might have had. Julia is most famous for her and her team winning at Crufts in 2016. Resident’s got to engage with Willow and Gibson, give them treats and watch them do their tricks.

Karaoke
An impromptu Karaoke session took place in our Honey Pot lane lounge, which when one resident started singing more residents engaged in this events. They sang songs from their favourite musician’s alongside the classics from Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and even Kylie Minogue.

Community Easter Bunny Hunt
The children and their families braved the chilly weather, put down their electronic devices and explored the village of Ketton to find Chater’s famous bunnies. The children cycled, walked to find them. Each child received a chocolate treat on their return.

Harrogate Chocolate Factory
We had a brilliant time across our services with Harrogate Skills 4 Living as they took us on a wonderful virtual visit to their Harrogate Chocolate Factory.
Residents were thrilled to discover details about the chocolate-making process and the fascinating journey from bean to bar, all while enjoying some delicious sweet treats.
The Factory aims to employ people with learning disabilities and autism, involving them in all parts of the process, from sorting and roasting the beans to packaging and sales. The experience was truly enjoyed by all who joined this event.

Beat The Clock
We continue to celebrate a varied life enrichment programme and across our services we linked up with other Barchester care homes and hospitals up and down the country for some interactive Beat the Clock games.
Our residents truly enjoyed solving word puzzles, conundrums and mathematical problems as part of Barchester’s very own game show series.
Everyone who joined had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.

Easter celebrations
Residents and their families enjoy the Easter celebrations, which started with a Good Friday coffee morning were family members and their loved ones indulged in homemade hot cross buns, followed by Easter crafts on the Saturday and Easter fun in the grounds with a fabulous Easter egg and Bunny hunt All residents received an Easter gift and many reminisced that it was the only day they were allowed to eat chocolates for breakfast.
