Activities at Chater Lodge Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life. We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Maria Durrant

Activities Coordinator

Hello. I am Maria and I have lived in Ketton for most of my life. I worked at the local primary school before joining Chater Lodge in 2019.

My first role here was as a Dining Host and have now found my passion in creating an interesting and inclusive programme of activities for all our residents.

I like having fun with residents, dressing up, singing songs and celebrating special events. I love being a part of the team here and my career change to Activities Coordinator is the best thing I have ever done.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Chater Lodge Care Home

Virtual Christmas Floristry

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Chater Lodge Care Home in Ketton, Stamford were treated to an interactive virtual Christmas-inspired table decorating masterclass, courtesy of talented master florist, Kathryn Delve.

Kathryn is an independent florist based in Somerset, she specialises in creating unique wedding and event flowers.  She takes much of her inspiration for her displays from the beautiful scenery that surrounds her home and the changing seasons and colours.

During the workshop, residents were invited to join Kathryn to make beautiful Christmas-themed table decorations. The displays will be used to decorate the home ready for Christmas celebrations.  Some residents chose flowers in traditional red hues whereas others chose different wintery colours depending on their favourite blooms and foliage.

Rutland Council Stop Smoking Support Seminar

It was a pleasure to host members of the local community at a seminar dedicated to providing support for individuals looking to quit smoking.

The event, held on Tuesday, 26th November, offered guests the chance to meet Kajal Karki, the Stop Smoking Specialist Advisor for Rutland County Council, who shared effective strategies for quitting smoking and enhancing health.

Residents, members of the community and colleagues found the workshop to be incredibly informative and we are so grateful to Kajal for her visit.

Chitter Chatter Coffee Morning

The month of November saw our residents, friends, and relatives join us for our Chitter Chatter Coffee Morning.

We were inspired by the wonderful work being done by Lauren at her companionship service Farrow Friends

Lauren's dedication to alleviating loneliness among the elderly is truly inspiring. Her winning design for Nescafé Azera, titled "The Silver Lining," beautifully captures the essence of connection. Lauren's winning design encourages us to share a coffee and a conversation, bringing a silver lining to someone's day.

Children in Need

Residents, relatives, members of the community and colleagues at the Chater Lodge Care Home in Ketton have taken part in a fun filled special edition of the homes community coffee morning to raise money and awareness for Children in Need.

Taking place this year on Friday 15 November, Children in Need raises money to help support local charities and projects which are providing essential frontline help to children and young people in communities throughout the UK.

The home put hosted a charming cake bake sale with a variety of home-made delights for our guests to enjoy during what would have been the homes weekly coffee morning.

The Wallace Collection

Residents across our services had a lovely time joining Emily and Marie-Therese from the Wallace Collection, for a virtual introduction to Reubens' Rainbow Landscape.

Residents truly enjoyed the sensory walk through one of the museum’s most famous landscape paintings.

Everyone who joined had a wonderful experience and can’t wait to put their creative skills to the test by painting some landscapes of our their in the coming days!

Afternoon of Pony Fun!

Our home was full of animal mischief when we were delighted to welcome ‘Darwin’ the Miniature Therapy Pony when he came to visit the home.

Residents at Chater Lodge were pleasantly surprised to see their new furry friend roaming around their garden Darwin made his way into the home.

Darwin although small in stature, had a huge heart as he went from resident to residents offering company, affection and cuddles.
