Activities at Cepen Lodge Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Life at Cepen Lodge Care Home

Anyone for Cricket?

Here at Cepen we decided to play some cricket. It has restarted on the television and the residents have been talking about it. We do love a game of cricket here and always surprise ourselves with how good we are. Sometimes we bend the rules slightly. We will be playing lots of cricket over the next few weeks hopefully in our garden in the sunshine!

World Bee Day

We celebrated world bee day at Cepen Lodge we decided to make our own bee hotel to attract the bees into the garden, we have no guests currently but we are keeping our fingers crossed this will change!

We also had a bee quiz for the residents to see how much they knew about bees, we had two winners on that day Philip and Wendy who knew lots about bees. One of the residents, Wendy, received a prize as you can see Wendy got 7 out of 8 answers right which is brilliant so if you ever want to know anything about bees just ask Wendy or Philip.

Residents Watch Daily Progress as Blue Tits Hatch

Residents living at Cepen Lodge care home in Chippenham have had their very own Springwatch, after staff spotted a blue tit's nest in one of the outside ashtrays.

Anxious not to disturb them, they began taking pictures of the nest, the newly hatched chicks and the brood as they grew and fledged, and posting them up for residents to see.

"It has been a great topic of conversation at Cepen Lodge and made us all smile in these unprecedented times. We have not decided how much we are going to charge the chicks yet for being at Cepen Lodge!," joked activities co-ordinator Alison Rowlatt.

Jane Jones, General Manager at the home, on West Cepen Way, said: “It has been lovely to see the chicks and the enjoyment it has brought to Cepen Lodge and it has inspired us to take part in 30 Days Wild, Wiltshire Wildlife Trust's annual nature challenge."

VE Celebrations

We had to adapt our VE Day celebrations at Cepen Lodge because of lockdown. We managed it by setting up our own special VE Day trolley, which we decorated in red, white and blue with Union Jacks! We kept the theme of what they would have had in 1945 to eat and drink to celebrate. It included corn beef sandwiches, sausage rolls, Swiss rolls and fruit cakes, because they were Winston Churchill’s favourites. Glasses of fizz, lemonade and ginger beer were all enjoyed too.

We went round to each resident in their rooms before 3pm so they could have a toast to the heroes of World War 2 and chatted with residents about their memories of VE Day.

The corn beef sandwiches were very popular, as was the lemonade!

A Double Celebration

To celebrate the Queen’s birthday and National Tea Day, the Queen came to visit us at Cepen Lodge and enjoyed a cup of tea with our residents in their rooms. Of course, she had to wear the correct PPE, which she did not mind; she already had her gloves on prepared! Here is David with the Queen enjoying a cup of Earl grey.
