Activities at Canmore Lodge Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators are committed to organising a variety of events as well as offering tailored programmes to stimulate residents both mentally and physically. There are regular outings in the minibus to local places of interest, such as trips to the beach for ice cream, pub visits for a pint, and regular trips to Dobbies for tea and cakes. Georgie Girl, an old English sheep dog, also stops by the home on regular basis for pet therapy. Musical entertainment is a big hit with residents as well, so we book fan favourites to come and play at the home each month. At Canmore, relatives are always encouraged to join in on the fun too.

Life at Canmore Lodge Care Home

Cycling at Canmore Lodge

Residents at Canmore Lodge have been back out in the glen for some fresh air and fun on wheels. Cycling without age is a great community service that brings the Global Trishaw movement to Dunfermline's Pittencreiff Park. At Canmore Lodge we are happy to be booked back up for the spring months ahead and residents cannot wait to get back out on their next cycle.

Nutrition and Hydration Week

Canmore Lodge care home in Dunfermline is celebrated Nutrition and Hydration Week (13th – 19th March) with lots of yummy, wholesome food, thirst quenching beverages and some interesting activities along the way.

Nutrition and Hydration Week aims to highlight, promote and celebrate improvements in the provision of nutrition and hydration locally, nationally and globally.

Top 20 Care Home 2023 Award!

We are happy to announce that we have won a carehome.co.uk award and have been prized for one of the Top 20 Care Homes in our region for 2022. The awards highlight the most recommended care homes in each region of the UK and the recognition is based on published reviews from residents and their families and friends, as of February 2023.

Historic Royal Palaces

Across our services, our residents were treated to a special virtual sensory storytelling session.  Together with Art Historian Jon Sleigh and the Historic Royal Palaces community team, we explored several royal palaces through the theme of food, dining and celebration!

We enjoyed a fantastic taste-a-long experience from the comfort of our home, from Tudor treats to Stuart sweets. A lovely time was had by all.

Virtual Book Club

Across our services we had a lovely time joining Mark Piesing for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘N-4 Down: The Hunt for The Arctic Airship Italia’.

Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fascinating story of the world-famous exploring airship Italia, returning from the North Pole on May 24, 1928. The airship was struck by a terrible storm and crashed somewhere over the Arctic ice, triggering the largest polar rescue mission in history.

The virtual book club experience was truly enjoyed by all.

Burns' Celebrations

We really enjoyed our Burns' celebrations which we started with a visit from Bernie who entertained us with some grand Scottish tunes, including some with the lyrics by our bard himself.

We followed this up with a quiz all about Scotland where the residents excelled - all except one question: "What's the name of Oor Wullie's pet moose?" This tricky wee rascal's name is Jeemie! Then we listened to a reading of "To a Mouse" and "My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose".

The celebration continued with the haggis being piped in, and our activities coordinator Kenny providing the address. That was a super event, with Kenny giving a superb dramatic delivery!

After a delicious Scottish feast, with the haggis taking pride of place, we had a smashing visit from Dawn and her delightful Brownies. The girls taught us to play a game of Haggis Drive, which is like a Beetle Drive, but with our national animal instead! The girls were absolutely lovely and spread so much joy around.
