Activities at Canmore Lodge Care Home
Our Activities Coordinators are committed to organising a variety of events as well as offering tailored programmes to stimulate residents both mentally and physically. There are regular outings in the minibus to local places of interest, such as trips to the beach for ice cream, pub visits for a pint, and regular trips to Dobbies for tea and cakes. Georgie Girl, an old English sheep dog, also stops by the home on regular basis for pet therapy. Musical entertainment is a big hit with residents as well, so we book fan favourites to come and play at the home each month. At Canmore, relatives are always encouraged to join in on the fun too.

Virtual trip to the Donkey Sanctuary
Across our services, Residents enjoyed a fantastic virtual tour of the Donkey Sanctuary Manchester. Residents were thrilled to meet the lovely herd of donkeys, including Henry and his best friend Tiny Tim and to learn more about their every day care. They were introduced to the sanctuary’s work and the impact they make to the lives of donkeys in need worldwide. The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all.
Autumn walk
This week Aileen, Shirley B, Gus and Andy enjoyed a bracing Autumn walk with Kenny and carer Julie. There's nothing like good Scottish fresh air when you're all wrapped up. In a much warmer activity our residents really enjoyed the Silver Screen showing of 'Fisherman’s Friends' at our outing to Dunfermline Odeon. Our visit to the National Museum of Scotland was another great success. Margaret H, Ron, John and Rae absolutely loved it, and our Rae had a brilliant time making music by stepping on the dots. Great fun!
They called it puppy love!
Kenny's daughter, Lisa, brought in the lovely Maggie (Big Mags) today to say hello to our residents. Maggie is 6 stone of muscle but she’s actually just a big teddy bear who absolutely loves everyone. As you can see the visit was a big success: Maggie had a ball hoovering up all the treats and getting lots of attention.
Bonfire celebrations
Other Autumn antics that we've been enjoying. On Bonfire Night we stayed cosy watching the fireworks on screen with toasted marshmallows and hot chocolate, followed by a screening of 'Phantom of the Opera'.
And we enjoyed another lovely visit from our wee pals at Laurieston Nursery, who, as well as entertaining us with their songs, drew us some fabulous fireworks pictures.
Our Odeon outing offering was 'Where The Crawdads Sing', adapted from the book of the same name, which was greatly enjoyed.
Football Memories
Today we had 'Football Memories' at East End Park: a monthly meeting run with Alzheimer's Scotland and The Pars Foundation, and facilitated by our own Kenny.
The subject of today’s meeting was 'Football and World War 1'. We spoke about McCrae's Battalion, Bradford Pals and other such groups of footballers who signed up, with many paying the ultimate sacrifice.
The meeting was also attended by Dunfermline Atheltics 1968 Scottish Cup winning captain Mr Roy Barry who just happens to be Jim's all time footballing hero. You can see how thrilled Jim is to have his picture taken with Roy. It’s not every day you meet your hero!
