Activities at Canmore Lodge Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators are committed to organising a variety of events as well as offering tailored programmes to stimulate residents both mentally and physically. There are regular outings in the minibus to local places of interest, such as trips to the beach for ice cream, pub visits for a pint, and regular trips to Dobbies for tea and cakes. Georgie Girl, an old English sheep dog, also stops by the home on regular basis for pet therapy. Musical entertainment is a big hit with residents as well, so we book fan favourites to come and play at the home each month. At Canmore, relatives are always encouraged to join in on the fun too.

Barchester Care Awards - We're Winners!

We are proud to announce that we have been awarded Team of the year at this year’s Barchester Care Awards.

Thousands of nominations were received from our homes and hospitals across the UK. All entries were a very high standard, and we are over the moon to have been named National Winner, beating hundreds of other nominees.

We joined winners from across the UK at a special awards event on the 12th of October to celebrate our achievement and to receive our award.

Well done and huge congratulations to everyone at Canmore Lodge

Awards galore!

Huge congratulations to our General Manager, Jane Aitken, who scooped the title of ‘Registered Manager of the Year (North)’ in the “Leaders in Care Awards 2022”. Jane was presented with her well-deserved award at a splendid gala in Birmingham. Our entire staff are so proud of her! And as the wonderful icing on the cake, Canmore Lodge won the coveted ‘Team of the Year’ at the “Barchester Care Awards 2022” in Manchester! Congratulations to everyone at Canmore Lodge! We celebrated throughout the home as we watched the Barchester awards being announced live stream as we enjoyed a delicious buffet prepared by Chef Krystle, along with a few cheeky wee glasses of fizz! We’re sure our cheers were heard across Fife as Jane, Carolyn and Baille, who were representing us, appeared on screen!

Intergenerational visit

We always love visits from our adorable wee neighbours at Lauriston Nursery (https://www.lauristonnursery.com/). Our little friends pop round regularly to charm and entertain us with their songs, stories, art and instruments. These cuties bring real vitality and joy to our residents who love interacting with the tots. Here are just a few of the things our residents had to say about our little pals:

A trip out and about

One of our new outings is regular trips to the National Museum of Scotland with our residents. As well as enjoying an edifying afternoon in Edinburgh our ladies and gentlemen certainly appreciate the beautiful drive over the Bridge.  Our residents who have visited so far have found the Museum to be extremely interesting, but somewhat overwhelming in size for a single visit as there’s so much to see and do – the perfect reason for a return visit very soon! Here you can see Gus pictured with a rather large and toothy fellow!

History of Botanical garden

Our homes enjoyed a wonderful virtual tour of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh with Community Engagement Manager, Charlotte Walker, and Botanic Cottage Operations Co-ordinator, Laura Gallagher.

The residents were thrilled to learn more about the history of the beautiful Garden, which is now a home to an impressive plant collection from around the world.

Charlotte and Laura also gave a demonstration of making fresh herbal tea and were happy to answer our questions.  The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all who joined.

Wallace Collection

Our homes had a fantastic time joining members of the Wallace Collection for an amazing sensory session.

During the live virtual experience, our residents explored one of the museum’s most beautiful Dutch flower paintings and learnt new drawing techniques.

We cannot wait to put our creative skills to a test and produce beautiful paintings of our own.

Everyone enjoyed the lovely talk, we all had lots of fun and it’s given us plenty of ideas.
