Activities at Canmore Lodge Care Home
Our Activities Coordinators are committed to organising a variety of events as well as offering tailored programmes to stimulate residents both mentally and physically. There are regular outings in the minibus to local places of interest, such as trips to the beach for ice cream, pub visits for a pint, and regular trips to Dobbies for tea and cakes. Georgie Girl, an old English sheep dog, also stops by the home on regular basis for pet therapy. Musical entertainment is a big hit with residents as well, so we book fan favourites to come and play at the home each month. At Canmore, relatives are always encouraged to join in on the fun too.

Katie Nicolson
Activities Coordinator
Hi, my name is Katie, and I am Activities Coordinator here at Canmore Lodge, transferring from our sister home, Drummond Grange, in 2025. Prior to joining Barchester, I worked in a number of care roles and studied Psychology and Sociology at Queen Margaret’s University and was awarded a degree of Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Sociology at the start of 2022.
I enjoy being part of the activities team and bringing new and exciting opportunities and experiences to the residents. When I am not at work, I am a local Girl Guide leader and youth leader for my church youth group.
Celebrating life at Canmore Lodge Care Home

Local Volunteer scoops coveted title
Andrew Morrison at Canmore Lodge has been crowned Volunteer of the Year for the North East & Scotland Division in the Barchester Care Awards 2025 and is through to the national round of judging.
The Barchester Care Awards celebrate the staff who go the extra mile for the benefit of the 13,500 residents living in Barchester’s 267 care homes and private hospitals across the country. Categories range from ‘Registered Nurse of the Year’ and ‘Carer of the Year’ to ‘Dementia Care Champion’ and ‘Activities Coordinator of the Year’.
Over 5,000 nominations were received from homes and hospitals across the UK. All entries were a very high standard and Andrew Morrison is over the moon to have been named the winner for the North beating hundreds of other nominees.
Canmore Flower Show
Now our sunflowers may not be doing their best, but there was plenty of time to plant more and try again! While we waited for them to grow, we brightened the home up with a flower-arranging competition.
The displays looked absolutely fantastic and sure did brighten up the place.

Fit Care with Bex
We defiantly like to keep moving at Canmore lodge and always have great fun at our fortnightly session with Bex from FitCare Scotland.
She always gets the tunes on and gets everyone moving, bringing a bright new energy to Canmore Lodge.

Yoga with Yvonne
We just love our fortnightly yoga sessions with Yvonne.
The residents always really look forward to the sessions and Yvonne brings such a calming and fun vibe to the home which everyone loves!

International Nurses Day
Residents and staff at Canmore lodge were happy to get involved by hosting a much-deserved afternoon tea for International Nurses Day.
Kimberly Laird, General Manager, said: “At Canmore, our nurses and staff are hard-working, dedicated, and passionate about caring for others, and that compassion and commitment has shone through even more over the past year. They continue to work tirelessly, and I’m proud of the professionalism and duty of care they uphold. All their efforts are focused on delivering the best possible care for our residents, so it’s nice to take this time to show our appreciation in return.”

Pet therapy moments
Residents thought the activities team had gone mad when they walked into the lounge with two miniature horses, but alas, both were on their very best behaviour.
All the residents just loved getting to meet the two ponies from 'Happy Hoofbeats' and were amazed at how loving and gentle they both were. It was a truly magical afternoon enjoyed by all.

Easter Bonnets
Residents worked hard the days before Easter on their Easter bonnets showcasing their creative sides!
Our residents of Memory Lane had a great time sticking fluffy chicks, flowers and even some bunny butts to their woven straw hats. We then all went outside to sit in the Easter sun, all while being protected by our new hats!

Admin Appreciation Day
We love to celebrate all the staff here at Canmore Lodge, but for Admin appreciation day our admin team were the stars of the show. Residents spent the day before making homemade thank you cards which were gifted to the admin team along with a bottle of wine each.
The admin ladies were really touched by this gesture and loved receiving the homemade cards.
