Activities at Camellia House Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Linda Wilkie

Activities Coordinator

I have worked in this home for nearly 30 years, so it is very much part of my life. I started as a part-time Domestic when my children were small and, as time has gone by, I have become a Senior Carer and the Activities Coordinator.

I have NAPA and OOMPH qualifications, as well as an NVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care.

I am very passionate about my role, as it is very important to us as a team that every individual is able to live the life they wish, feeling fulfilled in their mind, body and soul, maintaining past hobbies, yet have the opportunity to try new experiences.

I have built up a very good rapport with our team, our residents, family and friends, and I have built many links with the local community, which all help the residents get the most out of life at Camellia House.

I enjoy every day; the smiles on the faces I see are reward for doing a job I love.

95th Birthday Celebrations

We had a fabulous day celebrating Annie's 95th birthday alongside her sons and staff at the home. We were entertained by the incredible Dennis (One Man Stand) who sung for us for the afternoon and our Head Chef made Annie a delicious birthday cake.

Big Armchair Event

We really enjoyed a wonderful virtual event that was organised by Hertfordshire Care Providers Association, which included exercises, Tai Chi and a quiz. It was really lovely to be part of an event that included homes from all over the county.

Wine Tasting

Staff and residents were treated to an interactive virtual wine tasting masterclass, courtesy of Hospitality Manager, Christophe Noel and special guests, Lee Isaacs and Nick Parker from Unity Wines and Spirits.

Lee talked us through tasting a number of wines, starting with sparkling and white, before moving to rose and red. Lee provided an insight into the history of wine, wine making and a few tall tales and anecdotes from his 20 years in the trade.

,

Macmillan Coffee Morning

We had a lovely morning raising awareness and money for the Macmillan nurses.

National Relaxation Day

Feeling relaxed and calm is an essential part of life and particularly important to our residents and National Relaxation Day was a good chance to put this into practice. Besides a relaxation session and therapeutic colouring, the activity most enjoyed by our residents was making zen gardens.

Eyes Down

We had a lovely afternoon with Sophie Felstead, the Community Champion of our local Asda. She brought along all the equipment to play Bingo, as well as prizes and cakes and biscuits for afternoon tea.
