Tina Stovey

Activities Lead /Diversity Champion

I started working at Bushey House Beaumont in 2022 in an activities role that I absolutely love. There are very few jobs that offer the daily satisfaction and fulfilment that mine does. I am delighted to be able to play my part in helping to bring joy and laughter into our residents’ daily lives and offer them an interesting choice of events to do just that.

Strictly Ten out Ten for Dancing Demonstration at Bushey House Beaumont

Residents felt like they were watching an episode of strictly come dancing, when we were treated to an energetic dance demonstration at Bushey House.

Many of our residents are fans of the new BBC Strictly Come Dancing 2023 series and were delighted when we were entertained for the first time by local dancers who visited especially, to perform a varied programme of Latin American and Ballroom dances for us.

Our residents were totally enthralled and agreed on awarding straight tens whilst watching from the side lines of our makeshift dance floor in the Grand Dining Room and everyone loved singing and swaying along to the music so much, that we've arranged another visit form the talented dancers and invited them back to perform for us again, at our Christmas show in December!

Sweet Diwali Treat at Bushey House Beaumont

Prior to Diwali celebrations this month, our residents were entertained when by Jignasha, from the Jain Temple in Bushey who visited us to explain how Diwali is celebrated in the Jain Faith and also gave a masterclass in teaching us all to make some delicious Diwali sweets which everyone enjoyed eating afterwards.

Before we bade a fond farewell to Jignasha, we were treated to a meditation class which our residents all agreed was really relaxing and left everyone feeling calm and at peace with the Wold as we floated into the Grand Dining room for our lunch together.

Harvest Festival Celebration raises money (and the roof) at Bushey House

Residents recently enjoyed wonderful 'Harvest Festival' celebration, hosted by the Reverend Tayo and the Rector David, of St James Church Bushey.

In the run up to our 'Harvest Festival' event, residents, relatives, staff and friends generously donated non-perishable foods, toiletries and money given to the 'Red Trust Food Bank in Bushey.

During the multi-faith service, we focused on the meaning of harvest and how many religions celebrate at this time of year.

We also enjoyed an information talk given by a representative from the Red House Trust, to tell us all what happens to our donations we collected and explain the great work they and their volunteers do to help for people and families in our local community.

We were also joined by the organist from St James who played some hymns that included timeless favourites such as: "We Plough the Felds and Scatter (the good seed on the land ....)" which we all enjoyed singing at the tops of of our voices and nearly raised the roof of our Grand Dining Room!

Getting to know twit-ter-yooooo - baby owlet visits Bushey House!

We were all of a flutter yesterday when residents welcomed VIB (Very Important Bird) 'Bonzo', to Bushey House.

We were all taken under Bonzo's wings when we learned about how she was found abandoned and has grown from strength to strength since being hand-reared by the staff at 'Performing Pets'.

Our residents loved holding and stroking Bonzo who's now ten weeks old and quite tame, especially as for many it was their first encounter with an owl up close. We look forward to regular updates about how she's progressing.

We are very lucky to be visited by Performing Pets each month at Bushey House, and our residents look forward to interacting with the wide range of pets they bring into visit us.

Air Ambulance lands at Bushey House

Residents and staff were all pleasantly surprised, when the Essex & Hertfordshire air ambulance landed in the garden at Bushey House.

The air ambulance had been called to a medical emergency which occurred at a nearby address and Bushey House was the closest space, with a large enough area to enable the helicopter to land safely, to attend the situation.

Our catering team were only too pleased to offer some hospitality. by serving the crew breakfast, comprising sausage and egg sandwiches and freshly brewed tea and coffee.

Residents watched with interest, as the air ambulance took off to return back to base.
