Activities at Bedewell Grange Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Donna Brooks

Activities Coordinator

My Name is Donna. I am the activities co-ordinator at Bedewell Grange care home Hebburn. I joined Bedewell Grange in April 2022 and I bring lots of new exciting ideas to the role, having worked in the health and social care sector for the last 15 years. I am passionate about my role within the home and aim to bring a smile to all our residents faces through different types of activities. My personality is bright and bubbly so aim to share this each day at work. I have experience in supporting our residents who are more able as well as doing sensory Namaste sessions with our residents who are less able. As I gather the residents likes and dislikes if you would like to come and chat with me about your family member please contact the home to arrange.

Life at Bedewell Grange Care Home

Flower arranging

The residents have been busy putting together their own arrangements for their rooms. We had a lovely afternoon picking the colours for our arrangements and getting great ideas from each other. We’re really looking forward to doing this again next month!

Peppermint Cream making

Residents tried a new activity today, led by our expert bakers to make mouth-watering peppermint creams!  It was a highly enjoyable baking session, and very funny when no one could fold the mixture anymore!

Our baking sessions are a popular activity within the home and we look forward to trying our hands out at another new recipe next time!

Chinese New Year at Bedewell Grange

We celebrated Chinese New Year by taking armchair travels to China! Firstly, we learned how to say ‘hello and goodbye’ in Mandarin, then we switched to drawing little phrases and learning all about life in China.

The residents really enjoyed copying some of the traditional ink washing techniques, before we finished off with a Chinese banquet with our residents absolutely certain they had found a new favourite snack - prawn crackers and sweet chilli sauce!  Everyone is looking forward to visiting our next destination.

Valentine's Day

Throughout the month of ‘love’ we have focused our arts and crafts on Valentine’s Day to make decorations to display throughout the home.  We have designed and created hand-made cards to send to our loved ones and we have enjoyed chatting and sharing memories of Valentines’ past and the loves in our lives.  Happy Valentines!

Lockdown hugs

Some of our ladies and gents have been decorating watercolour keyrings to send home to their loved ones as we look at new ways to keep in touch during the ongoing pandemic.  Each has a laminated quote with a picture of them as a wonderful keepsake to send.  They have also painted key rings with watercolours and stuck them to the paper.  We think it’s a wonderful  way of letting them know we are thinking of them.

Getting to know you

As we look at ways of keeping our residents, active and socially stimulated we have been busy ‘Getting to know’ each other and learning about their lives, families, interests, hobbies past and present to ensure that we include these meaningful activities in our life enrichment programme.  Ada, was delighted to share many a wonderful story as we completed the book together.
