Activities at Bedewell Grange Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Donna Brooks

Activities Coordinator

My Name is Donna. I am the activities co-ordinator at Bedewell Grange care home Hebburn. I joined Bedewell Grange in April 2022 and I bring lots of new exciting ideas to the role, having worked in the health and social care sector for the last 15 years. I am passionate about my role within the home and aim to bring a smile to all our residents faces through different types of activities. My personality is bright and bubbly so aim to share this each day at work. I have experience in supporting our residents who are more able as well as doing sensory Namaste sessions with our residents who are less able. As I gather the residents likes and dislikes if you would like to come and chat with me about your family member please contact the home to arrange.

Life at Bedewell Grange Care Home

And they're off!

Residents and staff at Bedewell Grange dressed to impress, donned their best hats, and had their bets at the ready for Royal Ascot, which ran from 16th – 20th June.    This year however, due to the current situation, there was a change to proceedings. For the first time in the event’s 250+ year history, in light of the current lockdown and in-line with government advice, Royal Ascot 2020 will take place behind closed doors.

But racing fans at Bedewell weren’t phased by this, as they had the opportunity to enjoy the event from the comfort of their own armchair. Residents and staff got together to watch the races, and also celebrated in a very Royal Ascot fashion by dressing up in Royal Ascot fashion, hat making arts and crafts as part of their race day activities.

Mental Health Awareness Week at Bedewell Grange

We always care about our staff and residents’ mental health here at Bedewell Grange. We decided to do different activities to coincide with mental health awareness week. One activity we all decided to do was to write nice comments and compliments on a post during the course of mental health awareness week and place them in the baskets of smiles which were dotted around the home.

On Friday we let residents and staff alike to choose a post from our baskets of smiles and read them - it was so lovely to see lots of smiles around the home. It costs nothing to be kind.

Gardening Club

We have been taking advantage of the gorgeous weather to commence our Gardening Club! We have been busy creating a miniature garden by planting wild flowers and herbs into tea cups. We can’t wait to see the results!

VE Day Celebrations at Bedewell

We had so much fun preparing for VE day. The week leading to this  all of our sessions have been geared towards VE day. We made VE day mood boards, painted a tribute group painting to our fallen heroes and war veterans. We reminisced about VE day 1945 and made carrot and raisin scones!

On the day all staff and residents got dressed up as land girls not forgetting our gentlemen residents who had a bowler hat. We started the day with two minutes silence and toasted to our fallen heroes and war veterans.

We enjoyed a wonderful lunch of spam fritters and chips and beef casserole. We had a good old fashioned knees up and played pin the cigar on Churchill and enjoyed our indoor street party! An amazing day had by all!

A Tea Party Fit for a Queen

Bedewell Grange celebrated the Queen’s birthday in style, whilst also brewing up a storm for National Tea Day with a virtual tea party. Supplied with a tasty selection of biscuits, cakes, and of course, teas for the event, residents and staff of Bedewell Grange also had lots of fun taking part in activities sessions, organising an in house tombola. We also took part in a good old fashioned sing along and knees up, a quiz on the life of HRH, and we also had a  an afternoon tea fit for a queen!

An Eggcellent Easter

We have had so much fun with a wide range of activities this Easter week, including decorating paste eggs!
