Activities at Bedewell Grange Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.
Donna Brooks
My Name is Donna. I am the activities co-ordinator at Bedewell Grange care home Hebburn. I joined Bedewell Grange in April 2022 and I bring lots of new exciting ideas to the role, having worked in the health and social care sector for the last 15 years. I am passionate about my role within the home and aim to bring a smile to all our residents faces through different types of activities. My personality is bright and bubbly so aim to share this each day at work. I have experience in supporting our residents who are more able as well as doing sensory Namaste sessions with our residents who are less able. As I gather the residents likes and dislikes if you would like to come and chat with me about your family member please contact the home to arrange.

Life at Bedewell Grange Care Home
Historic Royal Palaces
Our residents were treated to a special virtual sensory storytelling session. Together with Art Historian Jon Sleigh and the Historic Royal Palaces community team, we explored several royal palaces through the theme of food, dining and celebration!
We enjoyed a fantastic taste-a-long experience from the comfort of our home, from Tudor treats to Stuart sweets. A lovely time was had by all.
Book Club Corner
Across our services, our residents had a lovely time joining Mark Piesing for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘N-4 Down: The Hunt for The Arctic Airship Italia’.
Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fascinating story of the world-famous exploring airship Italia, returning from the North Pole on May 24, 1928. The airship was struck by a terrible storm and crashed somewhere over the Arctic ice, triggering the largest polar rescue mission in history.
The virtual book club experience was truly enjoyed by all.
A special visit to Bill Quay Farm
Following our recent family and friends meeting we arranged a special treat for Ruby to visit Bill Quay farm where the staff arranged for Ruby to feed the animals.
Ruby shared stories from the 1940s when she lived and helped on a farm in Cumberland for six years with her evacuee family.
Ruby had her own personal tour guide in a staff member Marcus who introduced us to all the animals. Ruby was very fond of the alpacas called Biscuit and Smartie
Valentine's Day Celebrations
Throughout February our residents have been busy making a display for our reception including a friendship board. The board was about the love we share for each other our families a child an animal and how we express this. Our residents are very creative and this shows in our display. Our chef made some delicious biscuits and refreshments.
Little movers
We linked up with Stanley nursery and little movers for an intergenerational programme sharing skills and knowledge between old and young.
We will be joined by the nursery monthly for an afternoon of dance.
The residents and children bonded so well and there was a lot of smiles and laughter.
Chinese New Year
In celebration of Chinese New Year, we made lanterns and hats and enjoyed a feast of king prawn curry, chicken chow Mein and all the sides cooked by our very talented chef Andie. We also chose tipples of choice from our drinks trolley.
