Activities at Bedewell Grange Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.
Donna Brooks
My Name is Donna. I am the activities co-ordinator at Bedewell Grange care home Hebburn. I joined Bedewell Grange in April 2022 and I bring lots of new exciting ideas to the role, having worked in the health and social care sector for the last 15 years. I am passionate about my role within the home and aim to bring a smile to all our residents faces through different types of activities. My personality is bright and bubbly so aim to share this each day at work. I have experience in supporting our residents who are more able as well as doing sensory Namaste sessions with our residents who are less able. As I gather the residents likes and dislikes if you would like to come and chat with me about your family member please contact the home to arrange.

Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Bedewell Grange Care Home
Memory Boxes
We have been decorating our boxes with pictures of our favourite things from favourite flowers, hobbies and pastimes. Everyone’s boxes are individual to their personalities and will be filled with their favourite items.
Gardening
We have been very busy this month putting all our bedding plants in with petunias and marigolds adding splashed of colour. We have been painting trellises ready for our clematis to climb. Everyone has enjoyed getting involved and were looking forward to seeing the garden in full bloom.
Sponsored Fancy dress walk
We walked around Hebburn town centre in colourful fruity costumes. Our residents loved chatting to the public about our garden project and how we were raising money to make it colourful and full of flowers to enjoy in the summer months. We made a grand total of £440 in sponsors.
Coronation talk
Across our services Residents had a wonderful time participating in an interactive virtual talk with Pippa Catterall, Professor of History and Policy at the University of Westminster, where we delved into the rich history of coronations.
During the talk, we explored fascinating topics such as the coronation chair, the crown, and other significant aspects related to King Charles' upcoming coronation. Our residents were thrilled to have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the memoirs of past coronations from 1937 and 1953, as well as learning about the coronation oath and what to expect from the ceremony, including the music, guests, and pageantry.
Butterfly Garden
We had our caterpillars delivered and watched the transformation into beautiful butterflies. The caterpillars became chrysalides and hung from the lid of the container. We moved them into their habitat and watched them transform into butterflies which we fed with sugar water and fruit before setting them free. The residents really enjoyed the transformation.
Easter Celebrations
We enjoyed making giant eggs from paper mache and decorated them with colourful craft materials and decorating the home ready for our egg hunt. We also made Easter ornaments from salt dough
We had a visit from the Easter bunny who joined in the egg hunt and helped the children find all the chocolate in our gardens. We finished the day with a tea party.
