Activities at Ashlar House Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Life at Ashlar House Care Home

Pen Pals

With the restrictions in place to help protect our residents from COVID-19, we have had to get creative with our normal social interactions with the local community. Several of the schools that we associate with have started sending in ‘pen pal’ letters from their students to our residents.

We are sharing these letters and encouraging our residents to spend some time with replies. Even in the face of a global pandemic, we are finding creating ways to ensure we stay connected to the relationships we have helped to foster.

Mother’s Day

Today we celebrated Mother’s Day at Ashlar house. Due to Government advice regarding COVID-19 we are limiting our residents exposure to the virus which has unfortunately meant no loved ones visiting their mothers today. We have ensured that all loved ones were at least able to see their mothers today via FaceTime or other video conference service.

It was so heart-warming being able to share these moments between mother and son, daughter and grandchild. We also shared Mother’s Day Cards and pictures among our residents. Today could have been memorable for all the wrong reasons however even in the face of such a global crisis connecting our Mums with their families was spent focusing on love as it should be!

Purim Celebration

Purim Jewish holiday is about sharing your joy. During the daylight hours of Purim, gather friends and family for a feast & refreshments. Sing, laugh have fun together. Traditionally, the Purim feast lasts well into the evening.

St Patrick's Day

Due to the global crisis of Coronavirus, and in the interest of the safety of our residents, Barchester has taken the decision to cancel any external entertainers for the time being, including for Saint Patrick's Day and Mother's Day.

In the true spirit of overcoming these challenges, we still plan on marking the events internally... This clearly is a stressful time especially for the loved ones of our residents, and as such, we have made every effort to ensure residents are still enjoying themselves here at Ashlar.

Pancake Day

Pancake Day certainly didn’t fall flat at Ashlar House, with residents, families and staff getting involved in a pancake tossing tournament. Even the visiting entertainer, Stone Street Sound, got involved while they were there for a trip down memory lane.

Valentine's Day

In celebration of Valentine’s Day we have set a romantic and calming tone for our residents by inviting John Goodall Smith Pianist to deliver a medley of Classical, Jazz and Easy Listening live on the piano. A thought invoking session rooted in memory of days spent with loved ones this event was enjoyed by all.
