Activities at Ashlar House Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Rita Green

As the Community Engagement Lead and Lifestyle Coordinator, I will be spending time with each resident and their loved ones to build a detailed picture of each individual, so that each person’s stay with us is as meaningful as possible.  Although I have been working within this field for many years, thanks to the uniqueness of each resident, I am always enjoying new experiences in my role. My goal is to create an activities programme that caters to the capabilities of residents, including, but not limited to, individual and group activity.

I've spent the past few years forging strong relationships within the community and developing a pool of talented individuals that can support our in-house team to bring out the best in those we care for.

As we never stop growing and changing, it is important that we maintain an up-to-date Getting To Know Me booklet. With your help, the activities scheduled for your loved ones will be as relevant and enjoyable as possible.
I’m very much looking forward to working with all of you.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

International Women's Day!

The sun shone brightly as we celebrated International Women’s Day at Ashlar House Care Home, bringing smiles and laughter to the wonderful women in our home and community. The atmosphere was filled with warmth and joy, setting the perfect tone for a day dedicated to honouring and appreciating them.

Our live engagement activities uplifted spirits, creating moments of happiness and connection. As requested, a delightful lunch was served in the garden, allowing everyone to enjoy the fresh air and beautiful surroundings. The combination of good food, great company, and a lively mood made the celebration truly special.

It was a day filled with love, laughter, and appreciation—one that reflected the strength, kindness, and resilience of the incredible women we are privileged to celebrate.

Pots of Kindness!

This evening, our new friends from the Rainbow Group brought warmth and kindness to Ashlar House with their thoughtful “Pots of Kindness” for our residents.

Their generosity and care were truly heart warming, bringing smiles and joy to everyone.

As a wonderful reward for their kindness, the Rainbows will earn their well-deserved badges. We are so grateful for their thoughtfulness and the beautiful connections we are building together!

World Book Day with Bright Horizons Nursery

Yippee! It’s World Book Day!

Our residents had a fantastic time visiting Bright Horizons Nursery Epping for a Gruffalo Hunt in their garden. They loved seeing all the children dressed as their favourite book characters and joining in the fun!

A wonderful day filled with stories, laughter, and joy—thank you to Bright Horizons Nursery for having us!

World Book Day!

Tomorrow is World Book Day, and today we had the absolute pleasure of welcoming Year 5 students from Coopersale & Theydon Garnon C of E Primary School. They shared their favourite books with our residents and their loved ones, sparking wonderful conversations across generations.

From the smiles in these photos, you can see the pure joy and fulfilment this special visit brought to both young and old alike.

One particularly touching moment came from our resident Stella, who, despite recently losing her sight, felt deeply inspired by the enthusiasm and ideas of the children. She shared her own memories of boarding school and expressed how uplifting it was to hear about their favourite stories. If she could, she said, she would proudly call them her comrades in the world of literature.

A huge thank you to the students for bringing such warmth, wisdom, and excitement for books into our home today!

Happy Pancake Day!

What a wonderful morning celebrating Shrove Tuesday with a pancake flipping challenge in the garden!

Our head chef kept the fresh pancakes coming while our little friends from the nursery, residents, families, and even the dogs enjoyed the delicious treats.

The warmth of the sun on our skin, the laughter in the air, and the joy of sharing pancakes together made this an unbeatable morning.

Wishing everyone a flippin’ fantastic Pancake Day!

Pen Pal Group!

Our home, Ashlar House, received an unexpected, heart-warming postcard from North Cambridge Academy.

In response, we are excited to announce the formation of a pen pal group to continue this lovely exchange.

Due to the overwhelmingly positive response, we are now reaching out for donations of blank cards and postcards for residents to select and use in their replies.

For more information or to donate, please contact Rita Green.
