Activities at Ashfields Care Home

At Ashfields, we strive to make our care and services as person-centred as we possibly can, and this includes our provision of activities. We will give prospective residents a 'Getting to Know Me' booklet to fill out with their loved ones before their arrival, which includes a little life history and a tick sheet for a vast amount of activities. This enables us to offer bespoke activities and helps us to learn valuable information about residents and what might stimulate them in conversations and trips.

Our specialist activities and lifestyle staff make sure there are always meaningful activities to take part in, such as gardening, baking and trips out to various locations nearby, including local cathedrals, cafés, garden centres and much more.

Residents are encouraged to take part and we try to get every person out at least once a month to places they might be interested in visiting, but it is always their choice, ultimately. We believe that having choice is very integral in helping residents feel that they still have control of their lives.

Activities are provided by everyone in our home, from Carers and specialised activities staff, right through to the admin team.

We are a registered member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA), which means that we are always working to make the quality of life of all residents as high as possible by offering person-centred activities that aim to stimulate both mentally and physically.

Xen Greenwood

Activities Coordinator

My name is Xen and I am lucky enough to be the Activities Coordinator here at Ashfields.

I have experience working in care homes in Activities and leisure and lifestyle roles. In my own time I love to go antique shopping and making crafts.

I love being part of the Ashfields team and supporting our residents to live their best lives with fun, interesting, and varied activities available every week. I always feel its important for the residents to have the opportunity to explore new interests as well as keeping up with previous interests and hobbies.

Life at Ashfields Care Home

Century Celebrations

A resident at Ashfields was joined by staff and other residents, as she received a telegram from the Queen in recognition of her landmark birthday. A champagne reception was held at the home and guests enjoyed a special birthday mousse made by the home’s Head Chef, Tom Waters.

We’re delighted to be celebrating a truly remarkable woman as she reaches this amazing milestone. This lady is such a popular resident who always has an interesting tale to tell, and we look forward to hearing many more as she breaks into her next century.

Vintage Tea Party

Ashfields brewed up a storm for a vintage tea party. We enjoyed a selection of homemade cakes with a fes-tea-val of herbal and classic teas.

Residents at the home enjoyed a selection of sweet and savoury treats, including fresh cream and strawberry sponges. Lockdown has allowed residents to use their creativi-tea to become tech savvy, and, as such, family and friends were able to join the par-tea via video call.

National Soft Ice Cream

Residents at Ashfields have enjoyed indulging for National Soft Ice Cream Day. They really enjoyed this sweet treat, prepared by Bill's ice cream van, and it raised a smile on their faces. Some of our residents said the ice cream reminded them of a warm summer’s day at the seaside.

Memory Lane

Here at Ashfield, we have created rummage, memory and sensory boxes filled with everyday objects to assist our residents living with dementia. This encourages intereaction, communicaton and reminiscence. These activities can also be a soothing form of distraction. The boxes are created to cater for individual needs of each resident.

Creating a Cat House

Residents have been busy building a cat house for Head Mousehunter, Daphne—and she loved it!

Carers Week

When the world seems full of sad stories, it is good to highlight the positives happening in our local care homes, where residents are still living lovely lives and learning new technology and ways of speaking to families and their communities on the outside using Skype and FaceTime.

The home has also been inundated with gifts, cards and letters to keep spirits high among residents and staff. We have had many treats from local businesses, showing their support to us for National Carers Week.
