Activities at Arbour Court Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a variety of activities and events for all residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus, visits from entertainers and musicians and small group and individual activities in quiet yet stimulating environments. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect resident individual interests as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Life at Arbour Court Care Home

International Flower Day

Residents at Arbour Court celebrated International Flower Day with several flower themes throughout the day, from arts and crafts and colouring flowers which we then used to decorate the home. We enjoyed conversations about our favourite flowers, colours and what they meant to us throughout the years.  Some firm favourites were ‘Sweet Williams’ to ‘Roses’ before sitting back to enjoy refreshments and floral poetry extracts including William Wordsworth’s famous ‘Daffodils’.

A trip down Memory Lane thanks to local school

Reminiscence sessions are important to our residents here at Arbour Court and we were delighted to receive some large photo grids sent in my our community friends, New Mills School. The home enjoy intergenerational links and are pleased to have been able to keep in touch with the school during the pandemic.

Residents sat back and enjoyed a cup of tea as they looked back through the different periods and there was lots of good conversations formed from the lovely photos, sharing stories and memories of times gone by.    One resident remarked on “how they don’t make cars like they did anymore and about his favourite, Morris Minor!”

Birthday celebrations

Here at Arbour Court we love to celebrate our residents birthdays, on each occasion we start the day off with birthday wishes and a good cup of tea as the birthday girl or boy open their presents received from their loved ones.  There is a lot of excitement in the air as they open their gifts to see what surprise they have received.  Birthday celebrations continue throughout the day when everyone gives a rousing rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ whilst they are presented with a home-made cake, courtesy of the homes hospitality team.

Home donate to local dogs home

Arbour Court recently donated a hamper filled with toys, treats and blankets kindly donated by staff, residents and friends of the home to Manchester and Cheshire Dogs Home, a local charity close to the home.  The home thought it would be nice to help too, as like them the dogs home has not been able to have any visitors due to the current global pandemic, so they sent a little festive cheer which they dropped off at the charities door.  Manchester Dogs home was founded in 1893 and cares for over 7,000 dogs a year.

Best dressed Christmas Trees

As residents counted down to Christmas at Arbour Court, many have been busy helping decorate the trees to display throughout the home and adding a little sparkle and glitter before sending their finished displays in to Barchester’s best dressed tree competition.  . Decorating the trees helped to bring back festive memories for residents of the home. The team enjoyed hearing their stories and sharing their own family traditions too.

Home hosts raffle

Residents and staff at Arbour Court have been raising funds for a cause close to their heart, raising £50.00.  Members of the night care team have been creating hampers and knitted dolls with the winning ticket being claimed by carer, Karen who was delighted to win the dolls and will be giving them to her granddaughters.
