Activities at Woodside House Care Home

Activities at Woodside House

Our activities team deliver a wide variety of mentally and physically stimulating activities and events for those we support, including coffee afternoons, which we hold every month for the local community, regular outings in our minibus, and visits from entertainers and musicians. Monthly resident meetings help us to ensure that those living here are getting the most out of our activities programme, and that our social events reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible. From growing our own vegetables to making giant paper-mâché animals, there is always something fun going on at Woodside House.

Sam Lake

Activities Coordinator

My name is Sam and I lead our Activities Team at Woodside House.

I have been at Woodside House since 2004 and I love it here. I am responsible for ensuring that the residents are able to participate in sociable, fun and rewarding activities. My team and I are very passionate about our work and love putting smiles on the residents' faces.

We involve the residents in the planning of our activity calendars and encourage residents to continue with the hobbies that they have enjoyed throughout their lives. We will support every resident to try new things and we love learning from our residents every day.

Lord Mayor Officially Launches Christmas at Woodside House

Lord Mayor Officially Launches Christmas at Woodside House

The countdown to Christmas has truly begun at Woodside House in Thorpe St Andrew now that the Lord Mayor has opened their Christmas Grotto to a cheerful applause from staff and residents at the home.

The Lord Mayor of Norwich opened the Grotto on Tuesday 7th December at 3.00pm to celebrate the start of the festive season. She then joined residents, staff and visitors in sampling lots of lovely homemade wares, enjoyed a coffee and spent time feeding our visiting Reindeers.

The Lord Mayor toured around the home meeting lots of residents and talking to the staff about their different roles within the home.

What have we been up to?

What have we been up to?

We've been having lots of fun out Woodside House recently. We took a trip out to Wroxham and enjoyed drinks by the rivers, and were named divisial winners at the Barchester Care awards in the Volunteer of the Year and Resident Garden of the Year categories. We also participated in a charity car wash, decorated the home in preparation for Halloween, and made a carrot cake with our own, home grown vegetables.

What have we been up to?

What have we been up to?

We've been keeping ourselves busy recently here at Woodside. Some of the activities that we've been doing include: making bread, having sensory sessions with the bubble machine that involves manicures and hand massages; growing cumcumbers, re-potting our indoor plants and water painting. We've also had a number of visitors, including youngsters doing their NCI, who played bingo, ball games and reminisced with residents. Children from the Plymouth Brethren came to the home to sing for us as well - their voices and harmonies were amazing!

Seaside Summer Fete

Seaside Summer Fete

Our talented Care Coordinator, Al, along with Ryan and the famous Ivy Grace Paredes from this year's X Factor, came to perform for us during our seaside-themed Summer Fete. The donkeys came to visit in the afternoon from Scratby's Donkey Sanctuary and gave rides to the kids in the garden as well as going room-to-room inside the home visiting everyone. We also had a bouncy castle that was enjoyed by staff, visitors and residents - and even an ice cream trolley.

It was a fabulous day!

Employee of the Month - August

Employee of the Month - August

In August, our housekeeping team, known as The Pink Ladies, were nominated for Employee of the Month. We received the following comment from a relative stating that they all deserved to be winners:

"Me and my mum would like to nominate all Pink Ladies who do a remarkable job throughout the home. My first impression when walking through the door was 'what a super clean and smell-free home this is'. The standards of cleanliness are very high. Laundry service is amazing; they are always willing to help with Mum’s tags and any missing items are found straight away. They are lovely and friendly and are always willing to go the extra mile, with nothing ever being too much trouble - we need to recognize their good work."

Congratulations, Pink Ladies!

July's Employee of the Month was Senior Carer, Carmelita Gabuyo. Carmelita was nominated by her colleagues for all her hard work over the last few months and her positive mental attitude. Congratulations!
