What our families say: Woodside House Care Home
20 July 2017View the report
"First visit to the home to check suitability for Mum was amazing. Beautiful environment, lovely, spacious rooms, private bathrooms, marvellous lounge and dining areas, lots of information and communication with carers. Staff so friendly and warming to do all they can right from manager through to the team. I am so impressed. Know my mum will be fine here and have everything she needs. Thank you."

"My friend has been a resident of Woodside since October 2019 and the service she receives is truly outstanding. The care and dedication of all the staff are absolutely wonderful. Everyone is amazing and the standard of care is fantastic. The food is healthy and scrumptious and the chefs cater for all dietary requirements. There is always a range of activities and events to suit every taste and the sensory table is very popular. Last but certainly not least I would like to praise all the staff for their hard work and devotion especially in this particularly stressful time due to the virus."

"My relative lived at Woodside House for two and a half years and was always full of praise for the high standards he experienced in every aspect of his care. As his next of kin and a regular visitor, that is what I experienced too. The staff in all areas managed to cope with precise professionalism with respectful and friendly courtesy, there is real warmth in the atmosphere, and it is a home in the very real sense. Certainly, my relative felt 'at home' soon after moving in."

"My mother has been in Woodside House since September. The whole experience has been exemplary. The care and concern that every member of staff with whom we have had contact has displayed great attention to the detail of her care and needs. All staff have a good knowledge of her and are interested in, and concerned about, her welfare. Communication with me is excellent and nothing seems to be too much trouble. I am extremely satisfied with Woodside House and its staff."

"Since March we have been on lockdown. I could phone any time to see how he was. I have had five visits. Two in reception and three in the garden and most enjoyable. All of the staff have a very professional way with them."
S Jcarehome.co.uk rating: 5 out of 5
"My family and I have been most impressed by the loving care shown to our mother, in particular, during the lockdown. This has been an anxious time for us, but we have felt confident that Mum is being well looked after. She seems happy when we phone and visit."

"My Mum has been at Woodside Care Home for nearly two years and my wife and I visit around three times per week (prior to lockdown) and we are completely satisfied that she is being looked after very well. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. I would like to thank them all for their commitment during an extremely trying time."

"My wife was initially a resident on a weeks respite. This was extended to two weeks due to a review in her first week whilst making a decision on future care/funding. The result was that she was eligible for full funding, and is now a full-time resident, subject to a three-month review. March was thus her first month, and the initial contact with the home, management, admin, carers and nurses was excellent. It was a difficult time for me, having been the sole carer for her for three years, with a huge gap in my life. There were of course concerns for her, and how she would adapt. Two or three visits a week were planned, but due to decisions made outside of my control, these had to stop from 16th March. A double whammy for me. I have not seen my wife since. The staff at the home, particularly admin, and even more so the two nurses on my wife's wing have been fantastic, keeping me informed about my wife, and always answering my questions and putting my mind at ease."

"My wife was admitted to the nursing home from hospital with great care and dignity. The deputy manager and all the staff have been extremely helpful and kind at all times through her stay. We could not have wished for better treatment. The manager introduced herself and was very professional in her position. The food was excellent at all times and the premises have achieved 100% effort for everything "Well Done"."

"All staff always treat my relative with courtesy and compassion. His care is always at the forefront of all their actions. They keep me fully informed of any incidents concerning him and I am fully included in any decision-making regarding his care. The management is extremely approachable if I have any queries."

"My friend has been at Woodside for 5 months now and from the very first day everything has been excellent. All the staff are amazing, really helpful and totally respectful of the resident's individual needs, not to mention caring and friendly. The whole home is kept spotless and the laundry service is brilliant. The food is wonderful and the chefs cater to every diet requirement. I highly recommend Woodside to all."
Debra Pcarehome.co.uk rating: 5 out of 5
"From our initial contact and on a daily basis we have nothing but praise for Woodside. The relief at having my mother cared for in such an environment is huge."

"My wife was transferred to Barchester Woodside House Care Home from Norfolk and the hospital on the 20th September 2017 for palliative care and died there on 20th December 2017. I could not have wished for a more kind, considerate and caring place for her to end her days. In my experience, staff from manageress, nursing staff, kitchen staff down to the cleaners were so helpful. The food was of excellent quality and nicely presented."

"We are extremely pleased with the care our elderly cousin is receiving. Although she cannot move very much she always seems to be comfortably placed in her bed with things she needs near at hand. The staff seem to be very gentle and caring. Our cousin's room is always tidy and pleasantly fragrant. Thank you to all the staff at Woodside!"
Wendy Rcarehome.co.uk rating: 4.45 out of 5
"From walking in the front door and having a welcome from a very nice young man and the manager, to going into Memory Lane. All staff are welcoming and friendly. The tea trolley comes round and we all have tea and my husband has a piece of cake, he says its very nice. If you ask any of the staff for help, they are there straight away. We have only been there a short while and settling in quite well."

"Mum has been in Woodside for around 2 months and after a shaky start, she has started to take part in some activities - especially music orientated themes. All thanks to the staff at Woodside."

"Have visited a resident with dementia since his residence at Woodside started in 2016. The partner of this friend died in June and I am now responsible for the care and welfare of my friend. I am very impressed with the care he receives at Woodside. In a very difficult situation, staff deal lovingly with my friend's needs. Home is well run and maintained and there is an ambience of caring and striving to give a good quality of life."

"Overall good. I was only there for 1 week. I had a problem with one member of staff not wanting to help me when I needed it. Looking back this happened 2 or 3 times during my stay. The worst part was when I got home finding that my pressure sock was on upside down causing deep grooves in my leg and a swollen foot. I think this member of staff had a problem with me."
L Ccarehome.co.uk rating: 3.73 out of 5
"My cousin came to Woodside House for respite care. The welcome by the staff, both management, and medical and caring was very warm. After the excellent welcome, the service was exceptional - good food, swift response to requests for help and individual needs eg cup of tea etc. The staff are kind, cheerful, efficient. My cousin is very happy and laughter has returned to his life."
Desmond Tcarehome.co.uk rating: 5 out of 5
"We moved my mother, aged 92 and suffering from dementia into Woodside House two days ago. The manager and all her staff have made the process a lot less stressful than I feared. The warm welcome and immediate attention to mum's needs reassured me that we have made the right decision in choosing Woodside House."
M Lcarehome.co.uk rating: 5 out of 5
"Woodside Care Home looks cheerful, clean and welcoming in its public spaces. Coffee or tea is available for guests on entering. Our cousin's room is always neat and fresh-looking - she had had her hair done that morning and looked happy, comfortable and well-cared for. She likes the staff and says the cleaning staff are especially friendly. We have faith that she is in good hands and her physical, mental and emotional needs are being met."
Wendy Rcarehome.co.uk rating: 4.67 out of 5
"The staff at Woodside House Care Home are all very caring towards the residents. They all have a calm, unhurried approach and treat each resident as the individual person they are. On our very first visit, it was very obvious that the residents are very well cared for and small touches such as a string of pearls of a nicely tied scarf completed the cared for appearance."

"Very pleasant, all staff are friendly and helpful. Lovely, clean rest home with nice furniture and pictures."

"Mum seems to be well looked after on the whole. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. Small issues have arisen but have been dealt with satisfactorily. Mum enjoys the food and the activities. She has a pleasant room overlooking the gardens. Everywhere is kept clean and well maintained."
Helen Hcarehome.co.uk rating: 3.92 out of 5
"The care my parents received at Woodside House for dementia and general nursing needs was of such excellence that I have continued as a volunteer in the home since their deaths, playing the piano and enjoying music with residents each week. As 'part of the furniture' I quietly continue to see management structures, natural teamwork and genuine compassion which encourage and enable residents and staff to reach out to each other, despite advanced dementia. Life is worth living at Woodside and this is the care I would wish for myself. Clearly, I can no longer comment on all the questions below (rooms, security, value for money) and so have ticked 'good'. My opinion of the food is strongly influenced by the wonderful tiny cakes offered to residents and visitors - especially the brownies!"

"My dad is dying and the general manager has been amazing, and so has all the day/night staff by letting us stay here with our dad. They have looked after us by feeding us, letting us stay etc. The quality of care has been truly amazing. Credit to you all. Treatment has been spot on, cannot fault anybody. We cannot thank you all enough."
Michaela Hcarehome.co.uk rating: 5 out of 5
"My dad is receiving end of life care in Woodside. The kindness and thoughtfulness of the staff is unbelievable - they are looking after all of us - I have been asked by everyone if they can do/get anything for me, and they are so caring of my dad. I thank them all from the bottom of my heart."

"Since my wife was transferred from Hospital on 20th September 2017 for continuing nursing/healthcare at Woodside House Care Home she has been treated with the utmost compassion, dignity and kindness from all the staff from the manager to the cleaners whilst obviously she frequently says she wishes she could be at home she never faults the care and attention she receives for which I'm thankful."

"Our mum has dementia and she is in the dementia unit where she's looked after well. She enjoys the food. We know not to worry because she is safe more than being at home. Her recliner chair helps her not to fall. Thanks to the staff for her care you all do an amazing job. Well done to the manager on "good" from CQC."

"I have found the home extremely well run with compassion. The staff are very caring and friendly and go about their duties efficiently. The level of nursing care is very good and I am kept fully informed in all circumstances."
David Ccarehome.co.uk rating: 4.25 out of 5
"A good nursing home. The staff are kind and attentive. The home is clean and seems to be run efficiently. There is enough staff. There is a pleasant atmosphere in the home with a choice for the resident of how much time they spend with others and how much in their room, my wife is happy here."

"My brother has been in the Barchester Woodside House Care Home for 18 months. He is always in pain with multiple fractures in his spine and ribs. He is slow in his movement and speech. He also has a bed sore which is taking a long while to heal. The staff look after him well but everyone is so busy and he would like to have someone to listen and talk with him and comfort him with his health concerns. He would like to discuss his medications with a doctor but has been unable to see one. Because he is in pain he is not happy. The staff are all very nice and do their best in the time that they have."

"Due to major upheavals, things at Woodside House have turned around. The care staff are very happy and extremely helpful. The residents seem happy and settled. The introduction of a tea trolley has proven very popular. After a short break of the activities being limited the new staff have lots of exciting things in store for residents. All the staff at Woodside House communicate to residents. The only improvement I could see is communication to families by using modern technology i.e. Text message and emails."

"Mum has been here two years. She has settled well and mostly happy. I feel although the staff work well, there are times when the residents are left longer without any stimulation than I feel is good for them. Mostly, the staff are friendly and helpful. The cleanliness is very good in rooms etc. Some personal care is not always as good: nail cutting and hair washing could be improved. As no place will ever be 100%, the home does well."
S Bcarehome.co.uk rating: 3.58 out of 5
"Since the changes at Woodside House things have improved. The staff are very caring and are very friendly and happy. All residents are well looked after and seem to be relaxed. The activities have now been re-introduced due to a change of staff. This from what we have been told will be exciting. All staff in the home talk to residents from housekeeping to senior management. Residents are encouraged to get involved as much as they want. I think the home could improve communication by using SMS, email and all new technology available to them."
D Ccarehome.co.uk rating: 4.33 out of 5
"I am pleased to see new staff in senior roles as I felt standards had dropped in recent months. I certainly have faith in the new staff. The carers as always are great, though I feel some could benefit from more training in positioning of residents in chairs/wheelchairs as I frequently find my husband in a poor position. Glad there is a new lead chef too, as the food has been rather poor."
S Mcarehome.co.uk rating: 3.92 out of 5

"Woodside House (Memory Lane) is furnished and maintained to the highest standard, but more important is the care and kindness shown by all staff, cleaners, laundry staff, carers, nurses and the management team. To quote my 22-year-old daughter when visiting last weekend "Mummy I love it that they are so respectful to Grandad" - this is hugely important to maintain his dignity, especially for dementia patients. Well done Woodside."

"My wife has been a resident of Woodside House care home for just over 8 months and I cannot speak highly enough of the treatment which has been afforded her. The staff have always been attentive and efficient and mindful of my wife's condition. I believe we owe my wife's life to the staff at Woodside because they spotted the first signs of pneumonia when she first arrived in August 2016 and their quick thinking allowed the emergency services to administer antibiotics before the infection was allowed to develop. Thank you Woodside for looking after my wife so well."

"Mum has been here for 10 days, the place is lovely and clean, all the staff are friendly and helpful. When we asked for staff to take mum to the toilet they did so very quickly - the food looks lovely and the staff are encouraging mum to eat and spend time doing this. All in all we as a family are pleased with this care home."

"My sister has only been in Woodside House for two and a half weeks and so far the care, kindness of the staff to everyone at all times (residents and visitors alike) is outstanding. The food seems very good, the rooms are kept very clean and fresh. The standard of laundry care is excellent. Clothes all nicely presented when brought back, care obviously taken with them. My expectations of the home has been reached and far exceeded my initial hopes, far better than I could have hoped for in all ways. Thank You."

"Our mum/mother in law has been in the home since August 16, where we are really pleased with all the help and support we get from the staff when we visit regularly. They could n't be more helpful. She is much safer than living at home, where she was really struggling. We would like to wish all staff at Woodside House a really happy Christmas and a great New Year 2017."
