Activities at Woodside House Care Home

Activities at Woodside House

Our activities team deliver a wide variety of mentally and physically stimulating activities and events for those we support, including coffee afternoons, which we hold every month for the local community, regular outings in our minibus, and visits from entertainers and musicians. Monthly resident meetings help us to ensure that those living here are getting the most out of our activities programme, and that our social events reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible. From growing our own vegetables to making giant paper-mâché animals, there is always something fun going on at Woodside House.

Sam Lake

Activities Coordinator

My name is Sam and I lead our Activities Team at Woodside House.

I have been at Woodside House since 2004 and I love it here. I am responsible for ensuring that the residents are able to participate in sociable, fun and rewarding activities. My team and I are very passionate about our work and love putting smiles on the residents' faces.

We involve the residents in the planning of our activity calendars and encourage residents to continue with the hobbies that they have enjoyed throughout their lives. We will support every resident to try new things and we love learning from our residents every day.

Wild Science Group

The residents of Woodside House had another lovely visit from the Wild Science group. Everyone enjoyed the company of the exotic animals and had the chance to pet them.

George's New Room

George's New Room

Our resident George has been with us for over a year now, and has been longing for a room with a garden view. As part of our WOW refurbishment project, a fully redecorated room with a garden outlook finally became available and George was the first in line to move in. George is really happy with his new 'presidential suite'.

Football Fever

Football Fever

Several of our residents recently paid a visit to Carrow Road stadium to watch Norwich City’s last friendly game of the pre-season. All keen football fans, the residents were treated to a 1-0 victory against the french side Toulouse and we are already counting down the days until we visit again to watch some Premier League Football.

Flower arranging

One of our favourite activities at Woodside house is flower arranging, we enjoy the social aspect of this activity as passing the flowers round to each of the residents stimulates not only the senses (as each flower has a different aroma) but also conversation, each resident discussed their favourite flowers and why they are special to them. We proudly displayed our arrangements in reception for visitors to see.

Trip to Norwich Market

At Woodside we love to make the most out of the beautiful weather and get our residents out and about in our minibus. Norwich market is a hive of activity with so much to see, from shoes, handbags and fresh flowers to stalls full of brightly coloured fruit and veg it is always an exciting place to be. We sat watching the world go by enjoying delicious Fish and chips out of paper (the only way to eat chips in our opinion)

George with his D-day medals

We had an amazing day celebrating D-day with George, he proudly presented his medals to all of the staff who were engrossed in his tales. "He is such a fascinating gentleman, at 96 years old he has so many stories to tell, we are lucky to have such an inspiring gentleman here with us at Woodside house" says Sam the activities coordinator
