Activities at Wood Grange Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Foundation Cook Off
Staff and residents are celebrating because their wonderful Managing Director, Fiona Fagan, from Barchester’s North East and Scotland Division, has stepped completely out of her comfort zone to compete in the Barchester Charitable Foundation Cook Off 2024.
Fiona went head-to-head with the Managing Directors from Barchester’s four other divisions and cooked up a storm to raise a phenomenal £24,595 for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation which helps connect vulnerable people and those living with a disability to community groups in their local area by providing grants to improve mobility and quality of life. Each year the Foundation distributes thousands of pounds to individuals, small community groups and charities across England, Scotland and Wales.

Children performing their musical talents
Our community was delighted by a special performance from four talented young musicians in our first community concert! Ranging in age from 5 to 11 years old, these children showcased pieces they are currently practising in their lessons and grade work.
They brought a wonderful mix of instruments, playing the keyboard, clarinet, trombone, and electric guitar. This event not only gave the children valuable performance experience but also brought joy to all our residents who attended. A huge thank you to everyone involved, and we look forward to your next visit!

Prize Won at the Royal Windsor Flower Show
Robina's portrait was entered in the black & white photography category of a 'gardener' at The Royal Windsor Flower Show, Robina came 3rd! The activities coordinator entered the photograph on her behalf knowing her love for art and flowers. Robina was delighted with her prize of £1 which she spent on a packet of mints. She proudly wore her rosett and has the photograph on her wall. Robina said, "I have never won anything and I can't believe at the age of 94 I have won something, you must never give up".
Following this Robina discovered she was featured in the Stamford Mercury. Robina has been a weekly reader of the Stamford Mercury since the age of 4 and she is now 94! I shared the story with her brother Barry, who was very impressed with the article.

Trip to Rutland Water
Some of our residents enjoyed a delightful trip to Rutland Water. We started with a cozy hot drink at the Waterside Café, enjoying the perfect view of the water and watching the boats. Afterward, we found a lovely little picnic spot where we relished our picnic boxes, thoughtfully prepared by the Wood Grange kitchen team. It was a wonderful time, and Harry even said, "he has had the best day."

Virtual trip to Eden Project
Residents across our homes had a fantastic time exploring the Eden Project virtually - an educational charity and visitor attraction based in Cornwall, featuring sprawling outdoor gardens and breathtaking biomes that house the largest indoor rainforest in the world.
During the session, residents who joined were reconnected with nature through their senses, memories and stories. A big thank you to the community team at the Eden Project for the wonderful event.

Into the deep....
Residents across our services enjoyed a fantastic virtual tour of The Deep, an award-winning aquarium in Hull.
Our residents dived into the underwater world of some fascinating creatures such as sharks, turtles and stingrays.
It was a truly immersive and educational experience that brought the wonders of the ocean right to our screens.
