Activities at Wood Grange Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Life at Wood Grange Care Home

The Vine Farm Shop & Cafe

Residents at Wood Grange enjoyed a morning out visiting our local Farm Shop & Café in Deeping St Nicholas, The Vine Farm Shop.  Once we arrived, we were surprised to see the fish mongers van outside the shop,  Roy’s daughter treated him to dressed crab to take back to Wood Grange for his lunch. Residents looked around the shop first at the local Lincolnshire produce and purchased a few little bits, such as Gooseberry Jam, Yum!  After looking at all these wonderful products out tummies started to rumble, the café was calling us! We enjoyed a selection of cakes, hot chocolate, tea & coffee. The Vine Farm also has wonderful gardens to explore, which we did.  Residents had a wonderful time and really enjoyed themselves.

Sponsored Walk

On this day we gathered at Wood Grange where Staff, friends, family and residents met and we headed towards Wellhead Park where we did a loop and stopped off at the 'Don’t Lose Hope' Garden. It was a lovely warm day and our residents really enjoyed listening to the history of Bourne, meeting members of the public and then ending the walk with an ice cream.  One of our residents Mary said,  “I have had a lovely morning, thank you”.  We are continuing our sponsored events but due to the nature of how extreme they are, the activities team and family members will be doing this one with the support of residents. On the 29th September, four of us will be sleeping under the stars in the Wood Grange Garden followed by a 24 mile walk around Rutland Water on the 30th.  Please see our Facebook Page to find details of our just giving page and wish us luck!

Home host Dog Photography Competiton

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Wood Grange care home in Bourne got up close and personal with some furry friends photographs when the activities team hosted a dog photography competition in light of National Dog Day, which fell on August 26th.  National Dog Day is an annual event to raise awareness of the number of dogs in rescue centres and to encourage people to adopt dogs from shelters and dog homes.

Residents had a brilliant time admiring all the photograph entries that came through from both staff members and relatives. The residents learnt about the different breeds and their characteristics and reminisced about pets they once had. The idea for this event was to be a virtual Dog show where the photographs were displayed on a large board for all to see. It was very hard to decide on an overall winner however after counting the votes we found the winning pup. Gwyn had the winning vote for the best photograph, well done to Gwyn and her owner Maggie who is the homes administrator.

Arts & Crafts at Wood Grange

Wood Grange are always busy with creative projects, this particular project was creating miniature boating hats for the residents to wear as badges or to place on top of their furry friends heads.  The residents thought these looked very neat to wear for the summer season.  Maureen said, “I really like mine for my little poodle”.  Residents shared creative ideas with each other whilst talking about previous hobbies and current affairs.  This was a slightly more challenging craft than normal but the end result was worth it.

Pamper Mornings

Wood Grange residents have been enjoying a pamper morning which has been scheduled on Tuesday mornings, we are extremely lucky to have Gosia as a member of staff at Wood Grange who is trained in the beauty field.  The residents have been enjoying facials, Indian head massages, manicures and hand massages. This is very popular with our residents as Gosia creates an Spa atmosphere which is extremely relaxing for them. The smiles on their faces, says it all.
