Activities at Wood Grange Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Ruby-Mae Walker

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Ruby-Mae and I am the activities Co-Ordinator here at Wood Grange.

My background is working in dance education and production as well as experience in the mental health care sector. I am extremely passionate about my role here in promoting life enrichment within the home and I feel privileged to work alongside such amazing people, and to be a part of our residents lives, spending quality time with them on a regular basis. I work alongside Louise to plan and organise daily activities to suit our resident’s needs, Louise and I are very enthusiastic about our roles and the resident’s well-being is always at the forefront of our minds.

I love to dance, keep fit by going to the gym and spending time with family.

Sunday's Coronation Party

Our Coronation celebrations continued in the sunshine on Sunday afternoon, families came in with their picnics and our kitchen prepared some cakes and fruit platters.  We held a King Charles quiz, thanks to Oomph Wellness and played stick the diamond on the crown game.  Residents and families laughed, shared stories and enjoyed their picnics, everyone said what a wonderful afternoon they had and look forward to more garden parties this summer.

Celebrating the King's Coronation

Residents, staff and family enjoyed watching The Coronation Ceremony on a projected screen, thanks to Stonestreet sounds.  This created a cinematic atmosphere and we were all engrossed watching every moment. It was lovely to be sharing this moment with each other and residents really enjoyed the experience. A great way to start the weekend.

Coronation talk

Across our services Residents had a wonderful time participating in an interactive virtual talk with Pippa Catterall, Professor of History and Policy at the University of Westminster, where we delved into the rich history of coronations.

During the talk, we explored fascinating topics such as the coronation chair, the crown, and other significant aspects related to King Charles' upcoming coronation. Our residents were thrilled to have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the memoirs of past coronations from 1937 and 1953, as well as learning about the coronation oath and what to expect from the ceremony, including the music, guests, and pageantry.

Comic Relief

We held a coffee morning for Comic Relief and had ‘wear your Pyjamas at work day’, both events raised £89.56! Well done team, gone to a great charity and we all had lots of fun!

,

St Patrick's Day

Our relatives and residents had a great party in the Memory Lane community with Nick Glover performing some Irish classics! Everyone enjoyed a glass of Guinness and each other’s company.

,

Mothers Day Treat

Mother’s Day Treat, the activities team at Wood Grange organised for two professional nail technicians to come in and spoil our ladies the day before Mother’s Day so they could feel and look their best.  Alongside Gosia, our activities coordinator giving facials and massages.  Our ladies really enjoyed this pampering session and felt very relaxed.
