Activities at Wood Grange Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Ruby-Mae Walker

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Ruby-Mae and I am the activities Co-Ordinator here at Wood Grange.

My background is working in dance education and production as well as experience in the mental health care sector. I am extremely passionate about my role here in promoting life enrichment within the home and I feel privileged to work alongside such amazing people, and to be a part of our residents lives, spending quality time with them on a regular basis. I work alongside Louise to plan and organise daily activities to suit our resident’s needs, Louise and I are very enthusiastic about our roles and the resident’s well-being is always at the forefront of our minds.

I love to dance, keep fit by going to the gym and spending time with family.

Life at Wood Grange Care Home

Flower Arranging

On Thursdays, Gosia who is one of our activities coordinators goes to the local Bourne market to purchase flowers. Gosia creates fantastic flower arrangements with our residents, this is always a favourite. Gosia will do a group activity and then take the flowers to residents in their rooms for them to help too. This activity gives great social interaction for our residents as well as using their creative skills.

A visit from Claire Bishop

This month we invited a local artist called Claire Bishop to come into the home to give a painting workshop using water colour paints. Claire was great with the residents, she started off with a group session and then visited some residents in their rooms. She taught our residents to paint poppies by using really simple steps/techniques, and as you can see from the photograph the residents did a great job! Some of our residents are very creative and love doing creative activities like this. We are looking forward to Claire’s visit next month.

Bingo

Our residents really enjoyed a game of Bingo whilst sat in our lovely reception area, which has been decorated with Chinese Lanterns made by our residents to celebrate Chinese New Year.  This activity is great for social interaction and can be a real thinking game, but most importantly, its great fun!

Royal Parks London

Across our services our residents have enjoyed a wonderful live virtual talk about starlings, one of the UK’s most gregarious birds, hosted by Rachel Dowse from The Royal Parks London.

Rachel examined our long history with this bird and the importance of common species to our lives. Our residents had the opportunity to find out more about the great murmuration and why we need to pay special attention to these beauties before it's too late.

The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all.

Christmas Jumper Day

Staff and residents have enjoyed getting festive in their Christmas Jumpers. We also drew our Christmas Raffle. Our raffle managed to raise an amazing £496! We are so pleased to be putting these funds towards our Memory Lane Garden Project.

Christmas Wreath Making

Residents have had a lovely time helping to create a beautiful Christmas Wreath to hang on our home's front door. They also had lots of fun creating some Christmas flower arrangements to display in their rooms.
