Activities at Wood Grange Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Ruby-Mae Walker

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Ruby-Mae and I am the activities Co-Ordinator here at Wood Grange.

My background is working in dance education and production as well as experience in the mental health care sector. I am extremely passionate about my role here in promoting life enrichment within the home and I feel privileged to work alongside such amazing people, and to be a part of our residents lives, spending quality time with them on a regular basis. I work alongside Louise to plan and organise daily activities to suit our resident’s needs, Louise and I are very enthusiastic about our roles and the resident’s well-being is always at the forefront of our minds.

I love to dance, keep fit by going to the gym and spending time with family.

Life at Wood Grange Care Home

National Handwriting Day

Our residents enjoyed meeting their intellectual needs by celebrating National Handwriting Day. They were all really engaged and concentrating and all thoroughly enjoyed the handwriting activity sheets, enhancing their learning and development skills.

Golfing Gurus

We learned that a few of our residents used to play golf regularly, and that this was something they missed. We decided to buy a putting mat to see how this would work; residents loved it so now we are looking at how we can make a larger indoor golfing area.

Halloween Dress-Up

For Halloween, we held a competition for the public to send in photos of their children in their Halloween costumes. Residents had lots of fun looking through them all and voting on their favourite.

Remembrance Sunday

Remembrance Sunday was very different this year, but that didn’t stop us; our residents made their own poppies and some to sell in our local shop. We did a wonderful display and we brought one of our residents the special pound to be able to always remember.

Mental Health Day

For Mental Health Day, we had a day full of fun and laughter as we played a variety of games. The residents especially enjoyed the one where they had to throw a ball at the heads of the staff. We also brought McDonald's and some lovely doughnuts for everyone to enjoy.

,

Harvest Festival Display

Our residents had fun making flower arrangements, salt dough, fruit and vegetables and a great scarecrow for our Harvest Festival display.
