Activities at Wood Grange Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Ruby-Mae Walker

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Ruby-Mae and I am the activities Co-Ordinator here at Wood Grange.

My background is working in dance education and production as well as experience in the mental health care sector. I am extremely passionate about my role here in promoting life enrichment within the home and I feel privileged to work alongside such amazing people, and to be a part of our residents lives, spending quality time with them on a regular basis. I work alongside Louise to plan and organise daily activities to suit our resident’s needs, Louise and I are very enthusiastic about our roles and the resident’s well-being is always at the forefront of our minds.

I love to dance, keep fit by going to the gym and spending time with family.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Landmark 106th celebrations at Wood Grange

Celebrations have been in full swing here as one of our residents reached her 106th birthday in style. Ethel Smith was joined by staff and friends as she received a telegram from the King in recognition of her landmark birthday. A champagne reception was held at the home and Ethel enjoyed a special birthday cake made by the home’s chef, Virginia Jowett.

Ethel joined the RAF in the summer of 1940, just after her 21st Birthday and was stationed on the South Coast between South Hampton and Portsmouth. Ethel said she was and always is happy. In the RAF she had a nickname which was Happy Hansen, as Hansen was her maiden name.

St Patrick's Day!

The residents got in the spirit on St Patrick's Day, admiring the decorations and trying on different hats. We thoroughly enjoyed the St Patrick's Day Oomph Activity pack that we read as a group and completing the quiz that was included.

Residents took these packs away with them and later revisited them to have a go at the colouring pages. Harry, one of our residents, told us a very funny story about one of his past experiences. He said he was in Ireland and believed he had seen a real leprechaun. Later that evening, he said he had crossed over the Liffey Bridge and got lost, somehow returning over that same bridge in the same direction and was flabbergasted as to how.

Breda, another of our lovely residents, could not stop giggling at Harry’s story because Breda is Irish and knew exactly where and what Harry was talking about.
