Activities at Winchester House Care Home

Our activities team are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in. There are regular outings in the minibus to nearby places of interest, including the local priory and garden centres, as well as visits from musicians, a wide range of entertainers. We are lucky enough to have a enthusiastic team of volunteers who regularly visit the home throughout the week, and our yearly pantomime is a real crowd-pleaser and is well-attended by residents, relatives and members of staff. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Winchester House is fun and active.

National Care Home Open Day

In June we stepped back in time to the 1940’s – Winchester House celebrated National Care Home Open Day plus 75 years since D Day. Children from Wouldham's  All Saints Primary School were invited alongside All Saints Church to enjoy a coffee morning and street party.

The children played traditional games and entertainment was provided by Sue Caroline, who got the children to join in with her to entertain the residents. Members of the local community plus deputy mayors of Medway and Tonbridge & Malling Council joined in alongside staff! Residents enjoyed a glass of bucks fizz with homemade cakes and everyone enjoyed an ice cream!

The children learnt about life in wartime and were treated to replica gas mask boxes with ration books. One of our residents commented “This has been the most amazing day!” We couldn’t have agreed more!

Reading Club

In June, Holmesdale School visitedn and residents and students had an amazing time together while forming a new reading group. The children will visit the home regularly for five weeks and will have plenty of activities with the residents, and a chance to make new friends. Ryan, the teacher and organiser of the event was really impressed and happy with the first session. Winchester's staff and residents are looking forward to welcoming the children again.

Fun Day

Fun Day

In May, residents at Winchester House had a day full of music entertainment, dancing and singing. Mike, a singer and entertainer had Shorts Terrance to play 50's & 60's music. There was a lot of hand jive, dancing, singing along and spoons playing. Everyone knew the songs and was happy to sing them along. Just another fun day at Winchester House.

Kingfisher Boat Trip

On Tuesday 14th May, we went on our first Kingfisher boat trip of the season. The sun was shining and it was just the perfect afternoon spent cruising on the river, relaxing and enjoying the company and making memories with family and friends. Unfortunately, we did not see any Kingfishers, but enjoyed feeding the swans and ducks. A big thank you to the amazing crew (all volunteers) for making our afternoon truly amazing. We cannot wait for our next trip in June!

Age of Creativity

On Wednesday 15th May we hosted an 'Age of Creativity' session with with The Right Step Dance Company, and were joined by children from the Raven class at Wouldham All Saints Primary School. Residents, staff and children came together to make new friends whilst enjoying the music, movement and fun.

Intergenerational Fun

Intergenerational Fun

On the first Monday of each month, residents join with children from the village for an intergenerational playgroup. It is so nice to see the residents give gifts to the children. Our Head Chef supplies us with very healthy snacks, and of course, the mums can enjoy a cuppa.
