Activities at White Lodge Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators here at White Lodge enjoy the fulfillment of helping residents feel important and a part of something. Meaningful moments are created through laughter and comfort. A varied activities programme is offered for the betterment of residents' bodies and minds, including music for health, 'Oomph' sessions and chair Zumba, in addition to coffee and cake groups that all inevitably lead to giggles and old fashioned singalongs. Also, we organise parties, trips out, walks in the country, bus outings and wonderful entertainers to visit our home. A sneaky tipple is always welcomed with cheese and crackers and, at the end of the day, it is important to go home knowing our activities have made a difference.

Garden Centre Trip

White Lodge's latest trip out was to Studley Grange Garden Centre. We had great fun, the residents are really enjoying going out and about again. Tea and coffee in the cafe was followed by a stroll around the amazing selection of plants. We went for some scented geranium, these unusual plants smell of cola bottle sweets! Our ladies also enjoyed browsing (and some buying!) in the clothing departments. There were so many departments and interesting things to look at we look forward to another visit.

Cookery Lesson from Residents

So many recipes and cooking tips are passed down the generations.  We had some experienced resident bakers at our cookery session today which was baking a fruit cake.  Starting with their first tip we coated the fruit in flour to stop the fruit sinking to the bottom.  Everyone helped cream the butter and sugar, this makes the cake "light" the eggs were whisked and slowly added before folding in the flour.  We all very much looking forward to it being cooked and ready to eat - our final tip double line the tin and cook slowly at a low temperature.

Lazy Sunday Afternoon

Lazy Sunday Afternoon - residents really enjoyed listening to Don playing the organ, it is wonderful to have a resident who can entertain! The entertainment was accompanied by a tipple and nibbles!

Happy Birthday Ursula!

Happy Birthday Ursula, like many of our ladies she is 21 again! Ursula is looking fabulous for 95 years young and was delighted with her specially made cake, accompanied with a cheese and wine afternoon. All the residents enjoyed a relaxing afternoon celebrating with Ursula and it was rounded off with a good old sing song
