Activities at Westwood House Care Home

As Activity Coordinator at Westwood House I am fully committed to organising activities for all of the residents. This includes activities within the home such as reminiscence sessions, and planning events such as the Summer and Christmas parties. We have also provided some very successful trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and have monthly visits from entertainers and musicians. We are always encouraging local schools to get involved and have recently managed to get a local charity 'Spare tyre' working with us very successfully.

It is important to me that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Liz Wickers

Lifestyle Coordinator

My name is Liz and I am the lifestyle coordinator at Westwood House. I have always lived and worked in Southwark and Lambeth boroughs. I spent 25 years within the education sector before deciding to try new roles. As well as teaching I have also had the privilege of being a personal carer in Dementia. I am so happy that I have been welcomed into the Westwood House family where I can continue to grow and develop.

I aim to offer a range of varied and tailored activities and group sessions that are meaningful to each of them. I am thrilled to be supporting the team in delivering fun, engaging and interesting activities for our residents.

I look forward to meeting you all!

Summer Pudding Masterclass

Summer Pudding Masterclass

Host, Robert Dykes, made a summer pudding and then showed the residents how to make it from the scratch. He also made homemade crème fraiche ice cream to accompany it.

Masterclasses are held fortnightly and the residents like to demolish the end results.

Our Divisional Winner

Congratulations to Robert Dykes, who has been named as a divisional winner in the 'Hospitality Champion' category for the 2017 Barchester Care Awards.

Robert has now been with us since 2015 and has provided refreshments to all the residents and welcomes loved ones and visitors to the home. All our events have a lovey ‘finishing touch’ when Robert is with us. He also spends time with residents providing activities, taking them out for walks around the local area and spending quality time with them in the home.

As a qualified chef, he presents a regular ‘Catering Masterclass’ for residents. He has demonstrated amazing fruit & vegetable carving, fine dining menus and baking with residents. Another favourite is his version of ‘Bushtucker Trials’. This involves Robert seeking out some unusual foods and blindfolding willing participants to taste and try to identify what they are eating. This usually results in lots of laughter and hilarity - and sometimes various other comments!

Robert, we are all so proud of you and so happy to have you on our team here at Westwood.

We'd also like to mention Activities Coordinator, Eve Parsons, who was also nominated, but was 'pipped at the post' by Tina at Epsom Beaumont; and Maintenance Manager, Suresh Deonandan, who was nominated, but just missed out - unlucky both!
