Activities at Westwood House Care Home

As Activity Coordinator at Westwood House I am fully committed to organising activities for all of the residents. This includes activities within the home such as reminiscence sessions, and planning events such as the Summer and Christmas parties. We have also provided some very successful trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and have monthly visits from entertainers and musicians. We are always encouraging local schools to get involved and have recently managed to get a local charity 'Spare tyre' working with us very successfully.

It is important to me that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Liz Wickers

Lifestyle Coordinator

My name is Liz and I am the lifestyle coordinator at Westwood House. I have always lived and worked in Southwark and Lambeth boroughs. I spent 25 years within the education sector before deciding to try new roles. As well as teaching I have also had the privilege of being a personal carer in Dementia. I am so happy that I have been welcomed into the Westwood House family where I can continue to grow and develop.

I aim to offer a range of varied and tailored activities and group sessions that are meaningful to each of them. I am thrilled to be supporting the team in delivering fun, engaging and interesting activities for our residents.

I look forward to meeting you all!

100th Birthday Celebrations

100th Birthday Celebrations

We recently celebrated the 100th birthday of resident, Pat.

Pat was born in Cheltenham on April 12th, 1918. She had a very happy childhood and particularly loved everything concerning ballet. When she was fourteen, she was chosen to dance as the fairy Peaseblossom in Midsummer’s Night Dream at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon.

After leaving school, Pat trained as a buyer at Cheltenham’s largest department store. In June 1939, she married Jack, but within months of their wedding, war broke out and Jack joined the Royal Airforce as a rear gunner in Bomber Command.

During the war, she worked in the planning office of an aeroplane factory. Following the war, Jack remained in the RAF and the two had a wonderful service life, moving around the world to different locations every two years with their two children.

Pat has been an amazing grandmother to her four grandchildren, being very involved in their lives. She now has five gorgeous great grandchildren who love being with her and is greatly looking forward to meeting number six in June!

Pat came to live at Westwood House in 2012 and has greatly appreciated the wonderful care that she receives here.

Employee of the Month - Feb

Employee of the Month - Feb

Well done to Sue Stutter for being named as our Employee of the Month for February 2018. During the cold weather, Sue very quickly identified a health & safety concern that she immediately advised the Deputy Manager about. Thanks to her quick response, we were able to address the problem and avert further, more serious consequences.

St Patrick's Day

We celebrated St Patrick’s Day at Westwood House with beautiful Irish dancing from the Conor Academy of Irish Dance. We all enjoyed the afternoon immensely and are eagerly awaiting their return.

Coastal Trip

Coastal Trip

We have trips throughout the year using our own minibus and we travel to the coast a few times and other times we visit places in the local area, such as Crystal Palace Park, Dulwich Park and the Horniman Museum.

A Triple Celebration

Congratulations to Sarah Shungu, who was named as Westwood House's Employee of the Month in December.

Also, a big well done to Carer, Adora Salila, and RN, Roger Laccay, who both received their 15 year Long Service Awards recently.
