Activities at Westwood House Care Home

As Activity Coordinator at Westwood House I am fully committed to organising activities for all of the residents. This includes activities within the home such as reminiscence sessions, and planning events such as the Summer and Christmas parties. We have also provided some very successful trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and have monthly visits from entertainers and musicians. We are always encouraging local schools to get involved and have recently managed to get a local charity 'Spare tyre' working with us very successfully.

It is important to me that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Liz Wickers

Lifestyle Coordinator

My name is Liz and I am the lifestyle coordinator at Westwood House. I have always lived and worked in Southwark and Lambeth boroughs. I spent 25 years within the education sector before deciding to try new roles. As well as teaching I have also had the privilege of being a personal carer in Dementia. I am so happy that I have been welcomed into the Westwood House family where I can continue to grow and develop.

I aim to offer a range of varied and tailored activities and group sessions that are meaningful to each of them. I am thrilled to be supporting the team in delivering fun, engaging and interesting activities for our residents.

I look forward to meeting you all!

Oh, Yes Sir! We can boogie!

Great to have Peter back at Westwood House, entertaining us with his fabulous singing. So many tunes remembered and so many shapes thrown.

Oh we boogied hard this afternoon and what fun we had (somewhat exhausted now)

We even mastered the art of wheelchair dancing, a few twists and turns and we got it down to a fine art.

The Spirit of the Dance comes to Westwood House!

Beckie came to perform for us today. She is an Irish dancer, and has performed around the world in ‘The Spirit of the Dance’

We had a wonderful time watching her and listening to the tapping of her shoes. Beckie also shared photos of her time travelling and told us some wonderful stories of her time in the show.

We shook our pompoms and waved our flags and enjoyed every minute of it.

When our wonderful friends pop in for a cuppa and cake!

Here at Westwood House we always have a warm welcome waiting for you all.

We were so happy to have ‘The Cake Appreciation Society’ come visit us. A wonderful afternoon spent in great company.

Trip to Brighton

Whilst the sun makes hay, we will play and just what we did at the beach today, we took a trip to beautiful Brighton.

A wonderful stroll along the prom followed by fish, chips and mushy peas. Obviously we had to treat ourselves further to ice cream and candy floss.

We all had such a fantastic day and can’t wait to return.

Drama Students Perform at Westwood House

I while ago I posted about the project ‘Who Cares?’

This oral history project brings together older people living in care homes with A-Level Drama students from a local school.

The students receive training in how to conduct a life story interview, and then interview care home residents about their lives and experiences.

The students work with a drama facilitator to create and perform their piece.

We have been privileged to have the students and staff from Norwood School visit us at Westwood House to perform the finished work.

The students were amazing and delivered a moving and beautiful performance.

We know they will all ACE their exam.
