Activities at Westwood House Care Home

As Activity Coordinator at Westwood House I am fully committed to organising activities for all of the residents. This includes activities within the home such as reminiscence sessions, and planning events such as the Summer and Christmas parties. We have also provided some very successful trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and have monthly visits from entertainers and musicians. We are always encouraging local schools to get involved and have recently managed to get a local charity 'Spare tyre' working with us very successfully.

It is important to me that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Liz Wickers

Lifestyle Coordinator

My name is Liz and I am the lifestyle coordinator at Westwood House. I have always lived and worked in Southwark and Lambeth boroughs. I spent 25 years within the education sector before deciding to try new roles. As well as teaching I have also had the privilege of being a personal carer in Dementia. I am so happy that I have been welcomed into the Westwood House family where I can continue to grow and develop.

I aim to offer a range of varied and tailored activities and group sessions that are meaningful to each of them. I am thrilled to be supporting the team in delivering fun, engaging and interesting activities for our residents.

I look forward to meeting you all!

Congratulations Danny!

A massive CONGRATULATIONS to Danny Hogan for completing the 5K memory walk for The Alzheimer’s Society.

Danny is the partner of our administrator and the money he raised has secured two empathy pets for our residents at Westwood House. We can’t thank him enough, as these pets are an enormous comfort and joy to living with advanced stage dementia.

Empathy pet therapy is widely recognised as an effective therapy, they naturally people draw out a residents caring and nurturing instinct, creating a calmness and lessening anxiety.

Once again we want to say a great big thank you to Danny!

Entertainment by Peter

It's always a pleasure to have Peter entertain us. Redidents and staff all look faorward to Peter's concerts. We all so enjoy a boogie to an array of songs from the decades, which never fail to bring a smile and a memory or two.

Dementia Awareness

At Westwood House we pride ourselves on delivering person centred care and we understand how important it is for our residents living with Dementia to have happy, safe and fulfilling lives. We offer many sensory activities daily to encourage social and physical stimulation. We have a wonderful 'Magic Table' that enhances the lives of our residents by enabling them to use their sensory skills through touch, sight and sound. We hold weekly Namaste sessions where residents, if they choose, can be pampered by having a hand or foot massage, using essential oils and perfumes. We also hold weekly music and movement sessions, playing many genres of music to stimulate and evoke memories of the past. We make wonderful memories and have so much fun! If you would like to join a session, please call or email us, we look forward to welcoming you.

Music and Movement

At Westwood House we absolutely love music and movement. We turn on the tunes and dance away. Our friends and families are always on board to join in and we have a wonderful morning. Our sessions are a great way to keep fit whilst having fun.

Westwood House Summer Party!

We had an amazing and fabulous fun filled party at Westwood House, the sun shone and stayed with us throughout the day. We enjoyed delicious food, cocktails and music but above all else we enjoyed each other’s company. The children’s laughter as they played the games was truly delightful (hook a duck being the favourite)  It was a pleasure to welcome PC Lumley and PC Homshaw, our local neighbourhood officers. One of our residents insisted on being handcuffed and of course they were happy to oblige (one hand only)

A great big thank you to everyone that joined us and for your continued to support.

Oh, Yes Sir! We can boogie!

Great to have Peter back at Westwood House, entertaining us with his fabulous singing. So many tunes remembered and so many shapes thrown.

Oh we boogied hard this afternoon and what fun we had (somewhat exhausted now)

We even mastered the art of wheelchair dancing, a few twists and turns and we got it down to a fine art.
